The other speculation I heard was that the number 666 was a deliberate subversion of God's number, 7 (or 777 thanks to the symbolism of the Holy Trinity, so putting things into threes is even better.)
13 is unlucky because the 13th bishop was killed. So from then on, no building rose above the 12th floor and the number was known as unlucky.
If you read the Art of War, he says there is only 7 colors, types of terrain, etc... he is obsessed with the number 7 as an answer to almost everything
Not to mention there were 13 people in Jesus' group. Archetypes are very interesting, and how they are expressed through literature/history using the possible collective unconscious is very intriguing.
Unfortunately for me, it's not relevant to this thread haha.

actually he said 6 types of terrain 5 types of taste and 5 primary colors in fact i don't think he mentions seven in the whole book
Well, uh how exactly did the Art of War relate to the number 13 being unlucky? I still 666 is an unluckier number than 13, though. So that means Deth is unlucky. Stinks for you. And about 13 being unlucky, I guess those are good reasons for it being an unlucky number, so I'll say that it is unlucky.
