Also we could have simply cut back on programs like welfare until this was over.


I don't see how that could affect anything. No welfare, families that need it would absorb off other relatives, and that never solves anything.

Yes cut back on the very thing keeping many on the relative poverty line alive. That would go down well.


People live off it because they dont want to get a job i KNOW someone like that it's rediculous.

So. Removing welfare wouldn't stop the crisis from getting any worse. In fact it would probably lead to riots etc. What about the people who have been fired and are unable to find employment through no fault of their own. Are they to starve too?

Not remove cut back i.e. people who have been on it 5+ years are no longer on it

Still it wouldn't even help that much.This recession is so huge that would seem pointless and out of touch. Any administration in its right mind would never even consider it. If you want to save money then take the Tory tactic and save money on bureaucracy. There is always tons of unnescessary layers of it, but even that is only tinkering. The only way to solve such a massive problem is through big action. The stimulus is doing just that.
