It may not be the same with you, but you know how you have a good dream? Just one that was really nice and you want to remember it but can't? I normally have that, but when I have a bad dream, I can remember ALL of it. I, personally, am afraid of dolls, ever since I was little. I thought they wanted to kill me, and I didn't even see chucky at the time. I still have the creepy sense in the back of my head (I own no dolls, neither does my mom) but I have this re-occurring dream of a doll that would cry, do something to get my attention, then talk. It was terrifieing to me, and still is. The latest was only about 30 seconds. I wanted to check if my mom was awake in the dream, so I did, her door was closed, and she was sleeping. So I walked back and saw the doll. Strangely, I broke from the dream after I said "Oh my god!".

Have you ever had an instance where you also KNEW you were in a dream (not the main question)?

Also, (main question) is there an interpretation as to why my BAD dreams are always more vivid?

By coincidence there is a programme on BBC right now about dreams, how odd. Anyway apparently it is very easy to determine what you will dream by simply asking your brain before you go to sleep to dream of something. Though it may take some practice.

They've just started talking about nightmares.

I was reading through this topic and found this interesting. But this statement struck me as the most interesting.

I don't know if anybody else experiences this but I feel a slight degree of pain when I am attacked or something in my dreams. I can sort of feel people touching me and zombies biting me but when I wake up, everything is gone.

I watched a documentary on the brain and mind on the discovery channel, and it said that when you are dreaming, your brain takes past sensations that you have felt before and applies them to your dreams. So in other words, if you are sucking on a piece of candy in your dream, your mind will pull that sensation out of past experiences and your dream will give you the allusion that you are actually sucking on a piece of candy. So theoretically, you could feel the pain of breaking your arm again if you have done it before.

Anyways, back to the main question, why are bad dreams so vivid? Well I don't really know about this, all I do know is that bad dreams are VERY vivid...for me at least. Often times when I have bad dreams, they are so vivid that when I am maybe jumping or walking in the dream, it seems as if i can feel myself ACTUALLY lifting up my legs...

Dreams are very interesting things indeed...

dreams are mearly the subconcious taking control of your mind, it has no real effect on your body, unless you have a condition that allows your subconious to take control.

i have not felt a deal of pain, but of course theres other situations, like your brain sending off feeling receptors and taste buds, i felt and tasted pizza once when i was asleep.

don't you remember bad things more vividly rather than good things? i think it's subconcious's behavior to point out bad alot more...

I hate when I fall asleep in class, and feel like I'm falling. I always jolt in my seat franticly right before I hit the ground, I probably look so dumb. I did that in church one time, but nobody saw, hehe.

that is just utterly plain wrong, your subconcious mind always wins over your concious

only during sleep, theres a reason why its called sub concious, its basicly a waste dump for information, that releases it self when you sleep, somtimes its more powerful then others, one time i though of baseball all day, and dremt about it. not a coicidence :P

they don't come in contact unless your mind is under some sort of weakend state.

The last time I had a very bad dream was I was in my bed (in dream) and I was lying on my side, so I flipped over to lay on my back and a face was looking straight at me, it didn't look like an actual person but it looked like a Mask, like a boss on Persona 3 named Nyx (if you wanna know what it looks like look it up), and I basically jumped outta bed and I hit my head on the ceiling (I jumped high..) then I woke up.

Well I really don't know how to answer your question about why bad dreams are so vivid, but I do remember bad dreams more then good dreams.

dreams are not a complete mystery, but its funny how they have control over you when your asleep, i kinda like the feeling when im half asleep then i feel like im falling, but im not and its like my entire body feels super heavy for 1 second, liek i fell but i didnt...weird.

I just learned this: You get that twitch sometimes right before ur about to fall asleep because when you are about to fall asleep, your respritory system slows. Your brain sometimes mixes signals and thinks u are gonna die (yes this is true), so it gives your body an extra "jolt" to try to "keep you alive." Its called a myoclonic twitch. There is more about it here.

...And yes it you sometimes feel like your falling.
