I've noticed that all of the 0 AP ghost accounts are ranked #88,270. So, if there is a way to delete a designated amount of accounts, then Dan or another admin could delete a few thousand accounts below that mark a day, and the ghost accounts would be nixed slowly but surely. Any thoughts?
i used that on my server that doesn't mean that it is the same for here....it wouldn't hurt to get rid of them at least
It also wouldn't hurt to keep them there either. They are like grave tombstones. They do nothing but sit there, and you guys suggest to get rid of them, because people stay there and repeatedly poke the site with sticks. What's the point?
Not only would deleting the ghost accounts be pointless, but people who are so desperate that they need to make a ghost account to get AMOUR POINTS really should just have them. Btw, a person could easily rate a few random games on their ghost account before posting on its wall to give it a non-ghost appearance with like 20 AP.
Guys, don't worry so much about these. I have posted on like...2 cooments on ghost accounts. It is not that big of a deal. If people are doing it, they will be caught. They do not really matter all that much, so i dont see why you all care so much?
ShintetsuWA: Very good analagy there, I was trying to thnk of one, but yours probably fits the best there. With out spam, you would all have nothing to complain about. And then what?
Please note: those people who do not appear to exhibit any activity on AP inspection may in fact be actively accessing ArmorGames anyway. I know that I had an account for a while before I started posting.
Firefly that is probably one of the few original ideas on how to deal with ghosts accounts I have heard in a long time. Not sure how much it would work, but I like it.
(Delayed response) Hehe thank you sir. As for practical problems regarding the idea, I would think there would be hundreds of posts each week, bogging down the mods and staff, although if they slowly took action against serial spammers, I would think the numbers would steadily drop over a prolonged period.
However, admittedly, I know nothing about how this would work from a technical perspective, someone who is good with computers should probably answer that question. Other than that I genuinely think it could help reduce the amount of spam.
well what if that person one day wants to come back to ag and can't cause you deleted his account. how will you feel if you were just on vacation or something and when you come back you cant play anymore.
I totally agree. If you dont even have 5 AP, why do you need an account at all? you obviously don't rate or comment on games, or use the forums, and everything else can be done without an account.
you can still play games without an account, i'm saying it for people with 10 ap and less, so they just have to rate 5 games to keep their account
You do realize that people can just rate games at random,so this could effect the rating of the games themselves, especially early on when they first come out.I think many others are trying to find systems to prevent this as well. Now admittedly people do this all the time anyways, but this would only give some more motivation.Even if they don't care for AP,they wouldn't want their accounts to be deleted so they would randomly rate 5 games(in theory) so I doubt that would work.
