The idea started about a year ago that the world will end in 2012. My friends told me about this documentary called 'Decoding the past' that talked about how everything leads up to December 22nd 2012 and now a lot of movies are talking about fictitious ends and preventions. Even 2012 "the movie" is coming to say how some could survive this 'cataclysm'. I believe that the government is just psyching up the population, so that they are easier to control.

actually we dont die when the sun explodes

we die before that because when it gets to be a red giant it expands and kills us first

thats only if the climate change doesn't destroy our crops and we die from starvation first

But if we survive long enough until the sun decides to blow up we will be so smart we'd be able to move the planet away and find a new "Sun" to go orbit around :P
And when that one runs down?

The question being asked here is, of course, "Can entropy be reversed?" or "How can energy be created from nothing?" So, is the Earth doomed? Surely. Is mankind? Insufficient data for a meaningful answer.

No, 2012 is not the end. Epic Myth. Get over it.

Some weirdos actually think that the matrix will happen... weirdos.
Says the guy who is telling about a government conspiracy to fake the end of the world to make the population easier to control. Which wouldn't even make sense, for several reasons. One, the government wouldn't think of something so transparent. You're probably thinking, "No, they're stupid." Then how are they smart enough to spread the rumors correctly?... Or even get in their positions?
Secondly, spreading a rumor wouldn't make the population easier to control. It would just make the population panic if successful, but it wouldn't make them to something that would help the government. "The world's about to end! I guess I'll go pay extra taxes and not commit any crimes."

And if we move to a different sun and then THAT one blows up we could just move again :P
And when that one goes? There's only so many suns. Also, the population would keep growing, so we would need more suns. One day, we would run out.

@xzeno: theoretically, there would be an infinite supply, because millions of stars are being formed and millions are maturing, so if one batch of suns goes nova, then there most likely will be another batch for us to subsist on.

Just because some Indian calenders end in Dec. 2012, doesn't mean the world is going to end. I mean, get real, don't believe documentaries, or your going to end up like that guy in the movie, "23"

To be specific, the Mayan calendar. I do agree with you, why are people believing in this nonsense?

So that means, theoretically the human race could survive until the universe ends. There are multiple theories for the end of the universe. The most probable is the Big Chill.

Honestly? We won't burn because of increasing heat. Eventually, the world's oceans will be diluted enough by the melting freshwater that the ocean's freezing point will rise, and the Arctic Ocean will freeze. Then, the world will slowly cool again. The part of pollution that may kill us is a skin cancer pandemic if we destroy our ozone layer and all of the UV rays hit us.

why are people believing in this nonsense?

Because of Lil Wayne. He decided to go for a mystical PR image by jumping on some crackpot doomsayer Apocalypse theory, and now all the kiddies and adults with no life are clinging to the 2012 Apocalypse theory. It's quite sad, how far the intelligence of the world as a whole has degenerated.

I don't believe the world will end, it may be the start of doomsday and such, or the Mayans got tired of making prophecies and quit their job to go do something more interesting(honestly who would want that job anyway?). Although I've learned not to just say 'No Wai' to things like this, usually leads to a lot of brain power and late night debating with myself =P

My Biology teacher believes that this will come true, of course I can't take him seriously when he's yelling at us that Global Warming is fake and just political science and he knows how deep his bunker would need to be when a sun explodes or something...

Life could end today or tomorrow or hundreds of years from now, most likely how humans are "evolving" it will be sooner then later. And the 2012 armageddon theory im pretty sure is from the Mayans calender. This retard above is talking about Lil Wayne xD. And for the record if the sun blows up we all die no contest.

That's very sad. If your teacher believes in that rubbish then why is he/she teaching?

Even if I were the creator of the universe and all thing beyond reality I could not answer this question.
