The idea started about a year ago that the world will end in 2012. My friends told me about this documentary called 'Decoding the past' that talked about how everything leads up to December 22nd 2012 and now a lot of movies are talking about fictitious ends and preventions. Even 2012 "the movie" is coming to say how some could survive this 'cataclysm'. I believe that the government is just psyching up the population, so that they are easier to control.

Even if I were the creator of the universe and all thing beyond reality I could not answer this question.

Oh, I forgot to add. That's very sad and dumb that you teacher teaches people and believes in this rubbish.

It would have to end because we are eating, drilling, decomposing, killing, breathing, etc. Bascically if we keep on doing that the world would change so dramatically that 1 hour it would snow and the next it would be sunny.

the only reason this was started is because in they mayan calander it says all the planets will aline and destroy the universe. They go onto say that the only way to stop is to get verysingle crystal skull(that's right just like in indian jones) in 1 area at the time it's supposed to happen.

But I doubt much will happen till the sun expands.

If it does, we most likely will be dead. So nobody needs to worry about the world ending!

Actually many scienctists are argueing whether or not the shock wave will just push us father back or actually burn us to a crisp.

The Earth will end but not like that after the rapture the tribulation begins there will be seven years and then God will destroy the earth.

Technically, it would be basically impossible for the world to actually end. Eventually, something will probably happen (either from the sun exploding or humans nuking each other) that will wipe out life on Earth. Whether or not the Earth could ever recover from something like that is possible, although no one can say for sure.

From what I have researched it was thought we would just be on the edge of the suns new surface (which would be less dense and the Earth could survive) but now most scientists appear to think that we will not survive. But hey I have some faith in life I suppose it could pull through.

The Sun has insufficient mass to collapse into a black hole. Most likely, we will either be engulfed when the Sun goes Red Giant, or we will be blasted back by the shockwave and killed. Of course, and end-war or a huge pandemic could also bring down humanity.

That's correct. It is likely though, that we will not be dependant on the Earth anymore so the death of the Sun isn't the end. Anyway, there is a good chance that humanity could be destroyed even before the death of the sun.

I agree. Maybe multiple asteriods from the Asteroid Belt might move from their place and hit the Earth, maybe a big one too.

We have a huge cannon that uses magnets to shoot large projectiles into space and to eventually blow them up. We could equip it to throw nukes and then I don't think we'd have a problem with asteroids

SLight problem with that is that we don't see them coming. We are lucky to see them going. There was one a few years ago that past ridiculously closely and we didn;t see it till it went past us. Most of our telescopes are trained on specific areas few just randomly look around for stuff.

Also nukeing it won't work. Would you prefer one big asteroid or lots of smaller ones that are radioactive. The shoemaker asteroid split up before impact with Jupiter in the '90's and made a crator the sixe of the Earth.

Magnets? This doesn't seem to be possible in the near future. Won't people be using rockets?

It depends though on whether the asteroid will disintegrate or if it will break up into large chunks. The size of the asteroids and the strength of the nukes are important factors.

We might be able to survive but the sun would be really big in the sky making it bright during night.

That's an overestimation. The sun will balloon but it will definitely and eventually swallow up the Earth. If it takes years to balloon enough to swallow us, we will certainly die from the extra heat. The earth oceans will boil and evaporate and the earth will become barren rock before it is swallowed.

That's true.

The world is going to end someday . Whether we survive it's destruction or perish years earlier.

The world will end eventually, because someday the sun will implode and Earth will be swallowed up. Whether or not there is life on Earth at the time is a different matter.
