Allright, I made this suggestion once before, but i am varrifying it, and throwing it back out there.

Now, last time, isuggested the Mini-mod! the helpfull household object that does dishes....wait, wrong product...

*shuffles papers*

Right, here we go.....They would only have powers to lock topics. Would cut down on spam, but mods said they would have to trust them with all the powers to give them one.

So lets say this. Tehy consider mods, but have to be 100% sure they are a good pick. With this handy little system, they can experiment first!

Ok, so lets see they think Your mom would make a good MOD. They make her a mini mod for a month or so.

They cna only lock topics, and get nifty read fonts, or are unkown by the public, in which case they should fail.

If they do good, they will be given full moderator powers.

If they are bad at it, and abuse said power, they will be removed, and loss this chance.

And forget the red fonts, they could be completely unknow, so if they should fail at it, the public wouldn't laugh at them.

It will most likely be shut down, but I'm throwing it out there.

Hm, currently this idea would, as I see it, still have to go back to Dan himself, as ultimately it's Dan who okays or naysays any suggestions to do with moderators or administration.

Thus in this context I'm not entirely sure whether there's any place for &quotrobationary periods", though it's certainly an interesting idea.

this is actually a very great idea. lots of people can qualify for mini-mod but the only problem is that if to many do a good enough job then we will have to many moderators.

Being a moderator is an all or nothing deal. Either you have what it takes, or you don't. Almost doesn't cut it. A member must learn how to be mod material while being regular members. If they were to learn after being mini-mods, then they are not ready.

I mean... forget what I said, I was feeding you a bunch of BS. Here is the true reason why this idea will not work.

We do not promote members whom we think will make good mods into the moderator position. We spin the wheel of moderation to pick our moderators. Thats the real way we pick moderators. So, yeah, don't worry. Be a good member, and pray luck is on your side.

This would cut down the spam. Maybe mini-mods should help cut down our huge amount of spam? They job should be souly to cut down the spammage! I really think this sounds like a great idea.

I am also going to add, that what I said explains why ArmorGames has such high quality moderators. Well, semi-high quality. Anyway, some websites do use "mini-mods" or some other versain of the such. The thing is, being a mini-mod would probally turn into a perminant position. It could work. It just would not happen exactly as you think.

Well, the idea idea itself is good but theirs a sudden upbeat of pretty good members around here this past couple of months or so. Is their going to be a limit on mini-mods like have 2 or more for that month?

Really now? I can become normal... Which is really weird. Anyway, it's a good idea, but I've seen mini-mods at work on other sites, I've been one as well. It doesn't turn out well in the end. People get greedy, and selfish.

Not all people are greedy and selfish Snakebite. Their are some very honest users on AG here. Don't want to name any since that will tarnish why they are so good.

Sounds like a good idea could help organise the forums easier and get some duplicate threads closed.

Henrytheonlygameking read the original post you wouldn;t get to ban just lock threads

Wow, great idea. An odd one too, but it seems to be fine.
Maybe they should also be able to change the name of topics? Just another idea.

This seems like way too much of a liability. Making someone a mini-mod may seem like a good idea. But think of what could(and probably would) happen. Mini-mods locking topics with no order behind it, getting all 'holier-than-thou' on normal users and a whole lot more.

Mods here are chosen because they are going to be good mods, not just because they -might- be good mods. And the fact that they are crazy enough to subject themself to the tortures of modship. And being just odd enough to make a lasting impression on people/strike fear into their hearts.

Yeah sure... the uhh, wheel thing....mmhm...

Given just how much &quotower" a mod has, just giving a "mini-mod" any power.... well, they should
just be a mod then. If you give them anything that a regular mod has, they should just be a mod
anyways, and that includes locking threads.

You can't just give anyone this power, that's why choosing a mod is so discreet, slow, and complicated.
This is where the whole "trust" thing comes in. This is why admins "watch" you, and "check your
records" to see just how much of a mod you could be. You don't really know if a person is good or
not, even if you take a long time at observing them.

This is what would happen: They choose someone, they just happen to be untrustworthy, then they
go and do whatever the hell they please and cause pain for everyone who witnesses it. For all
of the guests that look at the community but aren't members, they would watch in horror as
the "mini-mods" screw up the community by locking whatever.
