Yo, theres alot of rumors out there about mormons. Ill tell you what we realy belive. Jesus is my savior and the book of mormon has jesus in it, he went to the americas after being resurected. Second, We don't beleive in plural mearage. Third, Our first prophet, Joseph Smith, did and saw everything that is said about him. some persecute us because he was so young. What about samuel the boy prophet in the old testimant? think about all of this
(i'm Mormon too) touching back on a few subjects from earlier. i'm in BSA with my church, and it is not required. many of my Mormon friends don't do the boy scouting program. its a way for the church to get the youth involved in the community and what not. on the caffeine subject, i drink caffeine all the time. our scripture that says not to drink hot drinks, etc. also says not to become addicted to things, and many ppl choose to not drink caffeine because of that. and lastly, the Book of Mormon is not an addition to the Bible. it is another testament of Jesus Christ. it tells of what he did in the Americas, teaching the natives here. and it doesn't show nowadays because the righteous group of natives, the Nephites, were killed off by the unrighteous idol-worshippers and what-not, the Lamanites.
i camped on coast guard island in San Fransisco on a BSA trip and the temple was too frickin bright, all other factions of Chrisitianity don't have to have huge temples, why do the Mormons have to keep everybody up :P
A Mormon approached me on campus a few months ago and he seemed rather friendly. As he explained it to me, Mormons simply believe that there are "latter day saints" or prophets, such as Moses, that exist in the America's. As for the whole, head in the ground thing to decipher the tablets, sounds like a stretch to me, but I believe Moses parted the Red Sea, so I guess its not THAT much of a leap of Faith. Would any Mormon's like to explain a few of the differences between your church and the Catholic Church? Do you guys participate in the seven sacriments? (Baptism, reconciliation, communion, confirmation etc.) What different perspectives does The Book of Mormon bring to the Gospel that the original cannon left off?
We believe in a restored gospel. We are not ALL prophets, only God can call a prophet. And that is our Church President. As for the America's thing, We have over 13 million members and most of them are in other countries. As for how the Chruch got started, in the early 1800's, a young man named Joseph Smith was confused as to what church to join. he looked to the Bible for the answer. He came across James 1:5 (If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him). So he went out and prayed. God and Jesus Christ came down and told him not to join any of them. After this, he was visited by an angel named Moroni. Moroni told him of some gold plates that contained a testiment of another people (The Book of Mormon). So after translating this book, (keep in mind that Joseph was only 14 when he was visited by Jesus Christ and having very little formal education, this could have only been done by a miracle or by guidance from God) he helped with restoring this gospel that has the true priesthood from the time of Jesus Christ. Its hard to tell you everything that is of interest to you... go to www.mormon.org to learn more about this gospel. I don't know your "seven sacriments". I know that we believe in Baptism for remission of sins, confirmation, repentance, and enduring to the end are the basis of our religon.
very nice, snakebite. thats really cool about the temple trip. my youth group is going on the seventh of June. we go to the Baton Rouge, Louisiana temple. which temple did you attend?
Like I said in a past post, you need to research your where you get your info... You need to get the info from a Mormon, NOT from someone that is anti-mormon!
