don't be too irritated about that kind of thing...

look at the previous world ending diseases: bse, sars, bird flu, swine flu... guess more guys will be dying because of hay fever or something...

Not anymore. This morning there were 5 suspected cases, now there are 88. Results will be verified within 1-2 days.

The reason for the rapidity of the spread is because many of the known cases just so happened to be flying at the time news broke out.

Just so you all know, one of the issues is exactly that until things actually start happening, we won't know whether to consider this a pandemic etc. That is to say there's no real way for us, at this stage, to actually predict the behavior of this pathogen. What the sources seem to have verified, however, is that the antigen is type H1N1 (with elements of H5?), which is unprecedented in human-human transmissable pathogens, which, if the WHO is right in upgrading their pandemic grade to 4 (i.e. what I just said), spells ominous news.

Despite all this, as to whether this will fizzle out or become the next catastrophic pandemic is still unclear.

I was actually just about to say this...

"What? A man in Brazil is coughing? SHUT IT DOWN. EVERYTHING."

The swine flu is not going to spread from human to human yet, or by eating pork. We have to wait until a human gets the strain of the flu and it mutates to be able to transmit from human to human.

Lol, so true. If what occured in Pandemic did so in real life, the world population would probably decimate itself from its own stupidity.

What I learned from Pandemic :
Shut down the airports
higher security standarts in the central water supplies
and

Don't forget the closing down of international trade routes.

Better save than sorry. The governments should all decalre emergencies, in case. If the flu is airborne....well than that's worse. My school is taking measures tomorrow.

Says it all. At least the government did do something in 1976. Precautions are necessary.

The only time I've ever won that game was when I started in Madagascar. Damn island, with it's quarantines and what not.

Actually, if we can believe the Danish media, there seem to be no cases of the swine flu in DK, though there is still two patients being checked.

It's pigs' way of saying, thank you.

It will die out just like the Bird Flu, this isn't a international threat.

I had about the same response some of you are having to this: I need to reach Madagascar and quick!

Also that google map of the infections is definately interesting. I learned that there is a potential infection in my own state. Wonderful.
