A kid did die in texas today. An illegal Mexican, a non american, i wouldnt really count that as an american death

....does it really matter whether he was illegal or not!? It's a baby for god's sake! Either way he died while on American soil and if he really was an 'alien' then he was gonna live here guess that makes him... sorry about the rant i get rather pissed when people just spout random crap that they don't know for a fact.

Today my science teacher told me the swine flu is the same as the regular flu. If she's right... WTF?!

I would have to say yes and no. It's a flu virus alright, which in that sense it's the same. but it's a different strain of it. Being a relatively newer strain of it, we haven't been exposed to it before. So it will wreck havoc on the world's population till either a cure comes out or we build up immunities. Hopefully it isn't relatively that lethal to humans.

Actually, humans do become infected from time to time. Meaning, people have gotten the "swine flu" before and we're all still here.

It isnt called swine flu any more. It is called Influenza strain A. Because of the fact that it isn't passed on by the ingestion of pork.

Since there is a name change, I hope all of us can refer to it as "Influenza A". Thanks.

It is just easier to say Swine Fly.

I believe that in a few months (3-4), they will find a cure or it will just stop spreading. When I say stop spreading, I mean that people will start getting immune to it. The worst that could happen would be that this would be the virus to kill all of mankind, but I highly doubt that.

You guys remember SARS? And the bird flu epidemic? And how lame these supposed &quotandemics" were? It's the freakin' flu... and I just got done listening to Fox News suggesting that no one in the country take any form of mass transit or get into any enclosed spaces with everyone else. Let's not freak out or anything...

I somewhat agree to that. I do agree because there WILL be later studies showing a cure for this "flu" and I don't agree because if it is just a regular flu, why has it killed so many people?

This flu is killing infants and the elderly that live on farms in Mexico. There's also no vaccine for it, but the CDC seems pretty confident there will be by next year.
But this disease started with pig farmers... not exactly prime healthcare area.

I dont think we will ever find a vaccine for it. The virus keeps mutating, so we cant really find dead "Cells" or whatever their called to inject ourselves with.

Moegreche, I do not know what to say because that is all a true fact. So you have stumped me. But what I can say is that it is starting to target adults now because there have been 3 case of Swine Flu in my state. Each person how got the Flu have been in their 30's.

Somers, there will be a vaccine.

We will certainly find a vaccine for this particular flu strain. When you get a flu vaccine, you actually get a cocktail of a bunch of different flu strains. From what I understand, the CDC doesn't want to develop vaccines for every single flu strain because that will just accelerate the development of "super-flu" strains, which would really suck. They only vaccinate against particularly dangerous flu strains. This strain does seem more dangerous than other strains, so it's certainly a candidate for vaccination. But since people are freaking out so much, the CDC will certainly develop the vaccine. That's why they're monitoring cases in the U.S. so closely so they can get whatever it is they need in order to make the vaccine.
