I support the CSA but thats because when you get past all the dumb lies your history books tell you they really where the good(well good est)side in the war, that war was not about Slavery, more men died than every US war ever combined! So you can't say that so many men died for freeing slaves or keeping them... Any Historian or just plain smart person would know the real story, that the south was fighting for Independence just like the Colonists in the Revolution, they where fighting for rights and freedom not slavery and what not.
And the Union was fighting to keep the country together as one not to free slaves which they did not care one bit about when it came to the man who was dying out in the field or to really any Union leader, sure Lincoln cared about them but he even said that it wasan't something he was gonna fight over ever.
And sure the CS lost but they fighted much more fiercely and bravely and where fighting to defend their homes and true American freedom, and in my opinion it was a war where the Good Guys lost cause they where outnumbered, if you ever see paintings and pics you always see southerners in anything they could find to wear cause well they where rebels, but now days people on both sides act like the other wasant American especialy southerners, but they need to remember that their own General, General Lee even said that something they tend to forget is that they both are american, so if the veterans at the anniversary in Gettysburg in the 20s and 30's could shake hands and laugh and admit they where brothers than why cant we do that 200 hundred some years later and learn the truth about it in school, cause when ever were in the civil war in history i always have to do the same speech about how it actauly went and what they where actauly fighting for.
If you disagree than iam sorry but you are very ignorant and may as well stay in the 1st grade since thats all you seem to want to know about the most bloody and emotional war this Country of ours have fought.

from my understanding the south wanted to secede from america but the north wanted to keep america together

so then fighting broke out and the war began

about your post it didnt really matter that the south was outnumbered if im not mistaken they won every battle until gettysburg and General Lee wasn't even really thinking straight because one of his best friends Andrew Jackson had died in battle so Lee was kinda messed up in the head

there im done

uh... no... not really....

If you know your history you would know that the war was caused by the disagreement between Jefferson davis and Abraham Lincoln. It became a war about slavery later because Lincoln thought it was convenient.

I don't want to get in a serious debate over this with anyone, but I'm stating what I think.

I don't really think anyone was the "Bad Guy" in the war. The Confeds. wanted to secede from the Union because they thought Lincoln would abolish slavery in the South, right? So they did and they wanted to make their "own way of life".

The North, wanting to keep the Union from breaking apart, didn't do anything because it could cause a war. Then something having to do with a Fort being attacked then the Civil War started.

What's sad is I just learned this, but I forgot some of the "major" things that caused the civil war.

The Confederates lost 'cause the states did not want to give richmond help because they thought Richmond did not support their rights.

The coexistence of a slave-owning South with an increasingly anti-slavery North made conflict likely, if not inevitable. Lincoln did not propose federal laws against slavery where it already existed, but he had, in his 1858 House Divided Speech, expressed a desire to "arrest the further spread of it, and place it where the public mind shall rest in the belief that it is in the course of ultimate extinction." Much of the political battle in the 1850s focused on the expansion of slavery into the newly created territories. All of the organized territories were likely to become free-soil states, which increased the Southern movement toward secession. Both North and South assumed that if slavery could not expand it would wither and die.

this may have been quoted already.. but DURH!? lets see when EVERY casuality is a US person, then of course it will be the worst war, US death-wise..

and im pretty sure slavery was a secondary issue..

Here is how it went down:

Lincoln was trying to get the South to get rid of slavery because he realized what a terrible thing it was. The South would not comply. When they finally got sick of him bugging them and trying to press an anti-slavery bill on them, they seceded so they could have slavery without being bothered. So Lincoln went to war with them to get them back because they seceded. But the reason he wanted them back (among other things, but one of the bigger reasons) was so he could push the anti-slavery laws on them.

So really, everyone in this debate is right to a certain degree.

Ricador: The South had already seceded prior to Lincoln's election. The roots of the conflict stem much deeper than just Lincoln bugging them.

Lincoln was NOT an abolitionist. He was fine with the slaves in the south, all he wanted to do was stop the spread of slavery
