They aren't illegal if you own the game, Like if you have super smash bros then you can use the emulator, but if you don't and you use it, its illegal. But I mean no one really checks...
If you own the game, it is legal. If you don't, they will slap you into prison. You will most likely get shanked. Them inmates hate online pirates. Some inmates, however, find online pirates irresistable. Yeah, the ones that will shank you are probably the ones you would rather be around...
Anyway. Roms are illegal if you don't own the game. The emulator itself, for some reason, (to my knowledge) is not.
I don't think they are illegal, or should be for that matter.
If emulators are made illegal, then thats just another way for the fat cats to make money. I have SWGEMU, a emulator of the original Star Wars Galaxies, because pre-cu was so much better. Onces all the bugs are cleared out, it will be teh pwnage. BUT, if I learned anything about private servers on MU(MMO), They need patches to let you play them longer. Patches your computer might not have the storage space for.
Yes, they are but who really cares unless you get caught?
I built an arcade game emulator in my basement... MAME... it has like 500 games on it... really impressive..
That's awesome!

True. Most emulators are not illegal because they were programmed and developed as freeware. Though if you do not own the game, it is illegal. Just don't download too much.
They're illegal?! But I have a bunch of emulators on my computer in my basement next to my pot plant! Lol, not really, none of that statement was true. But seriously, I never knew they were illegal, because I have one or two on my computer. Thankfully, I don't have limewire, making it more difficult to get caught.
