Why do you think parents tell their kids their are monsters under their beds. . Parents tell their kids that there is a monster under their bed, so they won't leave the bed.

My parents never told me there were monsters under the bed...I decided that because it was dark something could be hiding there. My parents made sure there weren't any monsters. Ah, childhood.

If people believe they can go to heaven if they are good, then they will be good.

That's not nessecarily true. There are plenty of people who do bad things even though they are afraid they will go to hell.

How do you know those people are afraid to go to hell. And if they don't believe in God then they really wouldn't care if they went to hell or not.

You just quoted yourself and LadyTurtleToes. And why do people always get into arguments about this stuff. Some people believe in God and others don't. It is something we have to live with.

Well, I don't but, I have personally known people who have said "I'm going to hell for sure" right in the middle of doing something particularly bad. And it could be argued that if you don't believe in God then you don't believe in hell (or heaven) and it's hard to be afraid of something you don't believe exists.

I forgot about your other remark. I never said your parents told you monsters were under your bed I was referring to parents in general.

If they believe they are going to hell for something they are about to do they are down right stupid in the first place for continuing to do it. And I never said that those people didn't believe in hell or that they did. I said that they wouldn't care if they went to hell or not.

I'll answer this post easy and fast.

Durkhaim. He said religion was a form to unify the people, and make new populations which had something in common, and to believe in. It's demostrated, and it's logical.

And more than that, believe in a God give us auto-suggestion powers, like more happiness, something between us = more energy, etc...

God used to be something good and useful when we were still fighting with wood. But not now.

Atheism is believe that God doesn't exist because there can't be proof. But there can't be proof about it can't exist. So, it means, atheists have fate about there is no God.

Fate is irrational, and being an atheist or someone who believes in God is the same stupid point.

Be agnostic my friend.

Your point is flawed. The driving force behind atheism is a trust in science. So while they can't directly prove god does exsist his exsistance goes against all the scientific laws that have been established. What I'm trying to say is that while there is no proof of god, there is proof of other stuff that contradicts him.

I think you meant to say faith. Fate is the concept that everything we do is predestined or that something is meant to happen.

The reason there is no physical evidence is because there is no physical body if god, God is warmth, a light and a feeling, trust me....I've almost been there

If I can just jump in here.

Firstly, nothing is proven. There is no actual proof of anything that contradicts the existence of God, only theories. There is no fact in the world, only theories which, with the necessary equipment can be disproved.

So, for example, there is a theory that we do not exist but are actually the holographic projection of light/radiation from the Big Bang (or something like that). Now, this is a theory which is just as credible as the Big Bang Theory.

So basically, it is theorised that we don't exist.

Now, on the original topic, to say 'How can you believe in God?' is really quite disrespectful of other users beliefs. Yes, the majority of people in these forums are Atheist (or similar beliefs), but that doesn't mean that everyone has the same view. A better way to state this question would be: 'Why do people believe in God' or 'What Causes people to believe in God.'

As a Christian, I believe in God. And to answer the question, I believe in him because I cannot see any other way that the universe could be created in the way that it is today. For example, look at a common ecosystem and food chain. Every biotic and abiotic thing lives (although abiotic features don't exactly live together, not quite in harmony but in a relationship which enables them to survive. I find it hard to believe that such a complex system could be caused by a 'giant explosion.'

Also, I have experienced things that cannot be explained by science, things like almost instantaneous mood changes during prayer...and I know of people who have experienced physical miracles.

So I hope that answers your question.

You get an F!

Okay, let me take your question seriously for a moment here. I think what you're saying is that you can't see how such a "stochastic event" (assuming it's that), results in "ordered entropy" (as oxymoronic as that sounds)?

The main problem with the line of reasoning (also the popular line of attack for modern Christian apologetics) is that the models apologetics attacks are misconstrued to be complete, closed models. But they're not!
