Pick which one was the most successful Punk/rock/alternative band in their time together or still together!

Blink 182- With one of their best songs ever I miss you
New Found Glory- a band that started a lot of fuss and popularity
Or Nirvana- A band that started a new type of music Grunge!

Pick the best out of these three. and if you don't know who they are you are quite frankly a little dumb! HAHA just kiddng

Grunge was actually started by Neil Young. He started rock off with similar stylings to what modern grunge has today. In all technicality, Neil Young of the folky sounding rock is the father of Grunge, not Nirvana.

About last comment-there is a typo. Instead of "He started rock off" it should be "He started to rock."

He is the guy who is recognized by most who started grunge. Neil Young actually did it, I don't know how, but there's this kid at my school who knows everything about music that's not rap, and that's what he says, so I trust him.

DiGiorno, you don't seem to be a fan of a debate. . . .

I would say Nirvana, although I'm not really into that stuff. And you could've posted a rock band people have actually heard of. By the sound of the name, NFG seems awfully not rockish.

Because people who argue that they started a trend sound like fucking tools.

Which documentary are you talking about by the way?

What genre is Soundgarden? 1984 comes before 1987 you know? Hell if you haven't heard of the deep six compilation then you basically no nothing about grunge. You should also really read up on neil young and the melvins aside from riding Kurt's dick all the time.

While Nirvana (not just kurt they were a band afterall) did make it hugely commercially sucessful, which also killed it, they were not the original band to label themselves as grunge. I'm not talking influence that later lead to grunge like Neil Young, i'm talking actual bands that were already in the movement long before Nirvana. Sound garden, the melvins(whom influenced kurt greatly), mudhoney, Green River, Stone Temple Pilots.

As for the topic at hand, clearly the most successful band was Nirvana. None of the bands listed had an affect like they did, they were the voice of generation x.

Well, the kid's a complete idiot. Nothing about Neil Young's sound is similar to "Grunge". Folk rock =/= Grunge.

This has to be a joke, correct? There's nothing Punk, Alternative, or Rock about the bands you listed; but of course you put Nirvana as Grunge. The most widely recognized band that may have fit that category... But why not even Pearl Jam!?

And besides, picking the best is an act of futility on the participants part, as this whole thread is just a way for people to comment on the music that you enjoy, and need more points of discussion about why they're so great when someone comes up to you, and tells you that Blink 182 suck ass, and New Found Glory were too sissy to be Emo! (And that's really saying something.)

Let me offer the board an ultimatum:

Best Punk band from a general selection:

The Exploited
The Macc Lads
U.K. Subs
The Real McKenzies
Agnostic Front

Best Alternative band from a general selection:

Moist
Matthew Good Band
Steve Vai
Inward Eye
I Mother Earth

Best Rock band from a general selection:

Guns 'N' Roses
Finger Eleven
The Darkness
Bush
Big Wreck

Best Grunge band from a general selection:

Alice In Chains
Pearl Jam
Sound Garden
Screaming Trees
Mother Love Bone

Now with a selection that better suits the TITLE of this thread, and perhaps, even with bands that are within the genres stated, an easier and better debate about which band did better in their time can start.

But just so everyone's clear: There is no One Best Band. No End-All-Be-All of music. That goes against the initial concept, and just continues to molest good bands because they don't have a flashy video.
