Spiders; the creepy insects with eight legs.

Though there are over 40,000 different species of spiders, each is different in its each individual way. They may scare you, or even interest you, they are majestic creature and masters of architecture. With web designs ranging from funnels to flat sheets, to even none at all, they manage to capture prey with skill full stealth and agility.

Even though the thought of these creepy critters strikes fear in many, the title is undeserved. Spiders usually don't attack unless defending themselves, their young, or their territory. Even the deadliest: the Black Widow refrains from attacking unless being squished. However, some do attack at random, as I was a few hours ago.

I was bitten by what I believe was either a sac spider, or a housing crab spider. Right now I'm not very sure as it was brief and I squished it the second I felt it. However, the bite has developed into a bit of what would appear to be a mosquito bite, however that is just the early stages of the sac spiders bite. It is fairly itchy.

So I have come to ask you, what is your take on the title that spiders have been given, and what causes you to think this?

And thus, I leave you with this:

How cute. :3

Their mouths are too tiny, I think. And even if they tried to bite you, I don't think they'd be able to break the skin.

They tested it on Mythbusters, they can nom on your skin. But they have no venom of note, either.

On Spiders-I got bit by a Hobo Spider. My leg swelled up like a watermelon. Apparently I was allergic. Fun, fun, fun.

Hrm... well I was misinformed.

Spiders don't bug me (No pun intended... seriously.), but SCORPIONS, they're a different story.

I found a scorpion in the glass case around a light bulb in my house. It was still alive, and tried to sting(?) meh.

Scorpions are funny. If you shine a black light on them, they turn fluorescent.

(Scorpions are arachnids, so this technically is on topic... Right?)

I guess :P

At my last summer camp, we found around eight or so wolf spiders, five in tents and three in the showers. I didn't get to squish one, though :P

Correctamundo, Aggression! I wouldn't have started talking about them if they weren't somehow related to spiders.

*Shudder* I had a run-in with an emperor scorpion... believe it or not, it escaped it's exhibit at the local zoo. I know their venom has no actual effect on humans that aren't allergic (Other than being very painful), but still, those things are frickin' huge!

Hrm... I am getting afraid a mod will lock this, now... Back on topic, I found a wolfspider at my camp one time. Those things are awesome!

I live in Washington, you see wolf spider you squish it. You see, wolf spiders look exactly like the Hobo Spider, which can do funny things to you if you don't get that bite treated. I just had it extra bad cause I was allergic.

What does Hobo Spider's venom do to you? And why is it named the Hobo Spider?

It's from Europe (European word, European name), and it makes a lot of swelling (Among other things). I got it on my leg, so it swelled a bunch. There are pictures on Google, but they aren't entirely accurate. It hurts like hell, though.

Read up on it some more, the hobo spider has similar venom to the Brown Recluse (But obviously isn't as bad, not fatal, but it will leave scars).

Ah, I hate wolf spiders. They're cool when they protect you from the hobo spiders and the yellow sac spiders, which are both in the same family as the Black Widow. Jumping spiders are wicked cute though, they make me go "aw :3"

Also, even less know fact the daddy long-legs spider is that it actually isn't a spider. Well, that is if we are talking about the Harvestmen. It is actually just a relative of the spiders. However it is actually the Cellar Spider that is the most poisonous spider in the world, but cant actually bite you. And that one is the most common house spider in the world as well. The Cellar Spider is also known as the "Grandaddy longlegs."

Brown Recluse... I thought I found one in my bed once, but it turned out to be a large brown tick.

Somers,
Me too. But I've pretty much gotten over that after studying them as much as I have the past few days.

Oh and to correct myself,
The Granddaddy long-legs is the Harvestmen, the Daddy long legs is the Cellar Spider. But the facts remain the same. I was brought up calling the Harvestmen Daddy long-legs, so I always get the names mixed up. x_x
