Well, I do not believe that not eating that turkey is a way of protesting. Yes, it is good that you do not go on suicide bombings, but it is not like anyone really knows/cares that you did not eat a turkey on thanksgiving - they will still be mass produced and eating all over the world.

Now, if you do not want to eat a turkey for your own conscience, or out of guilt that that animal suffered, that is an alright cause in my mind; I just cannot stand people who try and push it too far.

If we try and exterminate the animals, we can't eat them!
Obviously we can't eliminate the species we depend on for food.

@Sting
I agree totally that not eating a turkey on Thanksgiving does not save that turkey. But not eating a turkey on thanksgiving is way to peacfully protest. Would you rather vegetarians went on "Suicide Bombings" and blew up all the meat industries, killing hundreds or thousands of people? I think not.

I'm not sting, but, a peaceful protest is a waste of time. Since, theres nothing proven wrong with eating meat, besides the fact that you may reduce the # of turkey deaths if enough people followed you, but that won't happen simply because of the fact that we do eat meat and its a considerable amount of food for us.

@Armed_Blade
We do not need to eat animals, seeing as we have a substitute for the protien (tofu and nuts) and for the vitamins (Pills). Most people (where I live) are not objecting to the eating of meat,rather they are objecting to the treatment of the animals who are killed for meat. If the animals were killed in a more humane way, so that hey didn't feel much pain, vegetarians would be happier. So, we don't acctually need meat.

Meh, I hate the way they are killed to. BUT, your forgetting that theres not enough tofu in the world, your forgetting that all pills aren't the greatest things in the world and Meat is 100% good. Theres nothing wrong to it besides the fact that an animal has died in your favor. Its the way the world works. Sure, there are so many humans that 265,000,000 are dead. Er... would you rather have 265,000,000 dying of starvation?

I dont' see where the bad side to eating meat is. If you could show me that, I'd like to say something. xP

All that eat the turkey celebrate the slaughter of the indians? WHAT?

Dewd, America didn't neccesarilly slaughter indians. They fought against us and caused bitterness, they fought with the British. Soon, We had to move them because of Racism, which is sadly accepted, and then finally they were attacked when they opposed. I personally think it was wrong, but that doesn't mean now that if you eat a turkey your celebrating a festival that meant death to a race of people. Its wrong to say so.

Because we like meat.

Truth be told, it's far easier to eat meat than not to. Meat contains all of the amino acids we require to function, whereas there is no one vegetable source that contains them. A very small portion of meat contains all the amino acids you need for a day. You'd have to eat four times as many non-animal products for that.

And by the way, why are you not defending plants? Plants are known to react to the environment - take morning glories for an example. So what is it that makes them lower than animals? Because they can't look at you? This is the same token you try and use for animals being the same as humans. Deny this and you deny your own argument.

In summation, we need to eat. Why should we discriminate between which living things to eat when they're all alive?

I'm guessing because you can make a connection with an animal much betterer than a plant. After all, I can ask a dog to sit and after a while of training I bet you it will. Same thing with cows and bears [different methods, I suppose]
While, Plants, are just green things we can keep re-growing, and, truth be told if I ripped a plant up it wouldn't look as gruesome or sad as me killing and skinning and doing heaven knows what to a live animal.

Anyway, I'm going all the way with Megamickel. XD

Oh, okay, so because a cow goes moo you don't eat it, because it runs away when its hurt you don't eat it, and because its smart enough to know when to chew grass you don't eat it.

Not following. XP

The only reason is because you can get an emotional connection with them. 'Sides that its the ignorance of being able to see that killing an animal and eating it is a way of life. To me, Vegginess is a stupid concept, really.

I could love a cow, dog, horse, goat, rabbit whatever people eat these days and get a connection with it. But theres no denying that what it is is a food-source for people all over the world and the world works in a way where other things kill to survive.
