This was a thought that occurred to me in the debate about God thread. I just didn't want to bring up there because it's kinda off track. So...
What do you believe in?
Why do you believe in that?

I don't a religious believer saying something stupid that we've all heard before like, "I believe in God because there's a book about him."(you would be amazed how many times i've heard this)
I don't want a non-religious believer saying something stupid like "I believe in nothing."(once again, I've heard this before waaaaaay too many times)

I want to hear good, well thought out statements.
avoid flaming.

Scientology

So you believe that the alien lord Xenu trapped the nice spirits of the world in a volcano trillions of years ago, shipping them there with high-tech spaceships that look just like Boeing 747s, before they escaped after trillions of years in the volcano, angry, to inhabit humans and keep us from reaching our full potential?

That's Scientology. . . .

And creationism is the belief that the Earth is only 10,000 years old, with the Great Flood happening around the middle of that.

You believe oin a mixture of those two? That's almost impossible. . . .

I'm really still deciding. some days, I'm pretty much atheist, but other days you could call me Christian. I'm only 12, after all - I haven't decided completely on my standpoint on the existence of a god. But I'm skeptical of both sides.

It's not more far fetched than any other religion.

@thisisnotanalt I think a better word for you is Agnostic? (That is someone that doesn't believe in God but doesn't deny that he can exist).

I said I was agnostic in an earlier post. Just giving a more detailed explanation.

Sory, I was misinformed about Xenu. Here's the wikipedia article.

There are different types.

First there's the strong agnostic, they'd say I cannot know whether there is a God, and neither can you

Then there's the empirical agnostic (this is what I am, more or less), they'd say "I don't know whether there's a God or not, but maybe we can find out when there's more evidence"

The Apathetic agnostic would say "There is no proof for or against, but since any God that may exist does not seem to care for it's inhabitants, the question is academic."

Agnostic atheist "I don't know if there is a God, and I don't believe on one either"

Agnostic theist "I don't know if there is a God, but I still believe in one" It is based solely on beliefs.

Lastly there is the Ignostic who would say [i]"Give me a clear dentition of a deity, then we can discuss this."

Wow, ok. so you think that religion is a system used to make man better?

Um... no. I believe that Religion is an answer used by the corrupt and powerful to manipulate people into following their will. I believe that people who believe everything they see on TV, read in a book, or buys into the easy way out, are mindless sheep that are brain washed into agreeing with what ever they are told.

I believe that there are some religions, Like the Indian, who benifit from the teachings of religion. Most old religions say that Pork is evil. This is because that if you don't cook it right, you will get tap worms or other sickness. The 10 commandments are things you should be doing anyways.

oh, ok. if i were you i would see about checking out a few of the other churches in your area. My parents are divorced and move often. in the last 2 years i've gone to about 5 or 6 different churches. there have been some where I walked in and agreed with most of the things they said. There were others where i was confused the whole time and constantly got mad at some of the things that were said. No two churches are the same, is what i've learned.

I find that my personal moral stances clash with a lot of the policies of pretty much every organised religion I can think of. In any case, it makes no sense to me to seek out different religions or churches to make them compatible with my own beliefs if clearly, my personal beliefs clash with pretty much every organised religion I can think of.

I suggest if you REALLY want to go to a church. Go to a vanilla christian church. They don't preach much and it's just a hang out for teens and adults on Sunday. Most use it to as a safe way to pick up dates.

that's unique. never heard that before. i take it you don't believe in a god or anything like that... Are your a firm believer of science at all? by that i mean do you leave your problems and ideas to science? or are you just self-sufficient and believe in nothing but yourself?

oh, but religion is interpreted in so many different ways. it's fine if you'd rather not bother and stick with what you think now, but like i said, it may be a good idea to try a couple or churches or religious groups. whatever works for you i suppose.

I come up with my own answers. I don't believe in the big bang. I do believe in evolution, but I don't believe we came from apes, rather that we both came from something else. My ideas and beliefs come from common sense, logic, and human pyschology and Haslow's higharchy.

Scientists say that there was a common ancestor that both humans and apes evolved from. So you would be right about that.

Simply put: Everything MUST have an origin.

Then y can't god have a origin?

but I don't believe we came from apes, rather that we both came from something else

We did come from apes (well thats my opinion), and apes came from a other creature, and the creature came from a other creature....until its up to a bateria point of creature, and the first step to life.

I don't really want to go to church. I never really had any faith anyway.

I still don't see why I should find a religion that is compatible with my beliefs, when I don't have faith in there being a God, which is the clincher.

This is what I am, however I don't think sufficient proof will ever be found within my lifetime, so I'm really more of a strong agnostic.
