Now, as a suggestion from Randy, a fractal contest is upon you. You will have one week to create a fractalistic masterwork for me to judge. I'll crown a winner, do some honorable mentions, and all that jazz. There will be no themes or constraints - any fractal program, any scripts, anything. This contest is the canvas, your program the paint.

Now, let the fractacularness begin!

I used ApoMac. It's basically a modified Apophysis so it can run on a Mac, but it sucks it's really slow and times out A LOT. But there's no doubt it's better than any of the other Fractal programs I have used.

Don't worry, Apophisis takes long to render.

I thought I would do something a little different than everyone else and submit a Julian Fractal instead. Here's my new entry:

Doesn't strike me as a fractal.

It's a fractal. Just made using a different program. They're all different. Like the difference between that 3D one and Apophysis.

But it is a fractal dudeguy.
There are several tips of fractals.
Julian is one of them.

Doesn't strike me as a fractal.

More of a fractal than most here. Many of the other ones are fractal flames, while that one is a regular fractal, and a good looking one as well.

There's a ton of fractals mandlebrot, julian, base-motiff, pythagoras trees, and many more.

Could some one give me a textbook definition of a fractal?

It's completely symmetrical to start. A proper fractal should have at least one line of symmetry, if it doesn't it's a flame.

"A fractal is generally "a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole," a property called self-similarity."

A geometric pattern that is repeated at ever smaller scales to produce irregular shapes and surfaces that cannot be represented by classical geometry. Fractals are used especially in computer modeling of irregular patterns and structures in nature.
