A Haiku is a Japanese lyric verse form having three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables, traditionally invoking an aspect of nature or the seasons.

Well, that said, heres the rules:

1) The Haiku must be original (no plagarizing)!
2) It must fit the weeks theme
3) It must be submitted before the deadline
4) It must be submitted for the contest (no using works previously written)
5) One Submission per user
6) The Same User cannot win twice in a row (but there welcome to submit!)

Hopefully oneday the winner could get a merit...

The Deadline will always be a Wednsday, so the deadline for the first theme will be Wednsday, September 2. The theme is The Pond

May I both thank you for the Merit and for the Judging - as always, you take time to explore each Haiku in depth. On behalf of everyone - Thank you.

Also, I'd be happy to step up to the marker of temporary Judge for this week. Of course - deadline would have to be Sunday the 1st of August with Judging on Monday the 2nd. Is that OK?

Darkness beginning
It is the end of twilight
It is known as dusk.

Blunt.

I'm not cultured enough to now what you're talking about...

Actually, you're probably TOO cultured. It's from a James Clavell novel, which isn't exactly high literature. I thought it sounded cool.

Dusk, eh? Nice.

The darkness surrounds everything

That's 8 syllables. Take out the "the" and you'll have a legal haiku line.

Night and day combined
The sun soon leaves the grey sky
Soon total darkness

i hope that is a correct haiku
