A Haiku is a Japanese lyric verse form having three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables, traditionally invoking an aspect of nature or the seasons.

Well, that said, heres the rules:

1) The Haiku must be original (no plagarizing)!
2) It must fit the weeks theme
3) It must be submitted before the deadline
4) It must be submitted for the contest (no using works previously written)
5) One Submission per user
6) The Same User cannot win twice in a row (but there welcome to submit!)

Hopefully oneday the winner could get a merit...

The Deadline will always be a Wednsday, so the deadline for the first theme will be Wednsday, September 2. The theme is The Pond

Swords raised above heads.
Listen to our cry of war.
Quivering in fear.

My haiku reminds me of the song Frontline from the band Pillar <<

Everybody with your Fist raised high, Let me hear your battle cry tonight /Lyrics.

Lutes, flutes, drums, a feast.
An elusive glint, king's death,
In the jesters hand.

Could have been the cardinal during the mess as well.

In my digital design class, my teacher makes us draw out 20-30 sketches, and before that we have to write as many words as we can to describe the piece we are making...the point is your first piece isn't the best...

Howdy folks! It's time to judge, since today's the day. Let me start off by saying you guys blew me away with these entries. You could say that this was the hardest contest I ever had to judge! I've been a participant since page 200X and a judge 3-4 times so believe me when I say this contest grew!

At any rate, let's get started. I've been adopting the ArmorGames ranking system into this and I've also judged as soon as the entry was posted riiight into my notepad document, so here goes nothing...

Wood Award -- Jaza_M!

Swords raised above heads.
Listen to our cry of war.
Quivering in fear.

A traditional medieval wartime poem! The third line sort of broke up the rest of the haiku with that pause, which wasn't so healthy, but after constant rehearsing, the pause was no longer there. It was possible to continue the flow of the 2nd-3rd lines, but I guess it was the period in between that caught me off guard.

Iron Award -- Parsat!

The days of honor:
A sword for the hand of God.
Christendom's ascent.

I am totally thinking of King Arthur and his sword Excalibur! A king blessed by God himself creates such a certainty that he will be a great king.

Gold Award (Merit Winner) -- KingLemon!

A chilling wind blows
prayers heard under soft breath
a trumpet blares; war.

In three lines, you created suspense and a sudden uproar for battle. It is the fear of war and the suspense of "what will happen to us now?" that captivated me with this haiku. Along with those who stayed behind to pray for those they know and for their safety in the battle, it makes for a powerful poem. Truth be told, I had your haiku picked from the start of your entry (unless I discovered more recent haikus that were up to the challenge!)--it was the part about choosing the Iron and Wood awards that were the hardest! So congratulations on your win KingLemon! Be sure to notify a moderator.

And now for the theme. I wanted to do something unique, something no entree can possibly be similar, unless they really are! But I will tuck that little idea into my brain for the theme after this one. I kinda...won't know how the users will react to that, but if it works, they will also have a blast with it. Now, for this theme!

Theme -- The Elements

Entrees Closed: Thursday, January 20th

Judging: Friday, January 21st.

Now for me to say the famous words: Happy Haikuing!

Uhmm..

Water, to put out fire,
Fire, to burn the lands of earth,
Earth, to give us air.

Uhmm, I had to put some thought into this.
