A Haiku is a Japanese lyric verse form having three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables, traditionally invoking an aspect of nature or the seasons.

Well, that said, heres the rules:

1) The Haiku must be original (no plagarizing)!
2) It must fit the weeks theme
3) It must be submitted before the deadline
4) It must be submitted for the contest (no using works previously written)
5) One Submission per user
6) The Same User cannot win twice in a row (but there welcome to submit!)

Hopefully oneday the winner could get a merit...

The Deadline will always be a Wednsday, so the deadline for the first theme will be Wednsday, September 2. The theme is The Pond

Languish at my door,
Oust the lurid surroundings.
A familiar face..

Anyone else notice this?

Asylum, my home
Sanctuary in my mind
Safe insanity

Subliminal message for the win? :b

Hey, I actually posted this a few days ago but I lost my internet connection as I was writing it. And then I went on a airplane/bus for two days.

Seeing as you haven't judged yet, here it goes:

Music
By Aknerd

My clear cutting notes
Make a bolder universe
A shield of rhythm

Judging is underway but sadly my connection keeps fizzling and I'm writing this from my iPhone (I'm camping right now) so I'll only be able to do the top few, sorry to those that miss out but it'd take me years to judge the full lot on my phone.

The Subdued Maniac award goes to Hypermnestra:
Asylum, my home
Sanctuary in my mind
Safe insanity

The duality of this poem really speaks to me, as does the Haiku itself (I'm not insane - I swear upon that cloud made of rats). It shows the way in which insanity changes the mind and how the mind itself is a place that no one else can enter and disturb.

The Award (Of trees) goes to Zaork:
wide open spaces
endless variance to joy
natural retreat

One of the more literal takes on the theme and one that I really enjoyed. Each line works well to strengthen the whole and each line creates strong, positive mental imagery that conjures images of a haven in nature.

The Bronze Award goes to Graham:
Languish at my door,
Oust the lurid surroundings.
A familiar face.

I didn't choose this as the bronze award just because of the copious use of long words and my phillia for them - Honest! I enjoyed the interpretation of the theme and the way in which Graham arranged the Haiku - it flows well from each line to the next which gives the overall Haiku a good 'feel'.

The Silver award goes to FallenSky:
I look at the frogs
Between the water lilies;
Enjoying the pond

This is a REALLY good Haiku - it might just be your personal best Fallen. The Haiku feels traditional, suited to the theme and is almost 'warm' - it transports me to a version of Haven within my head - a sign of a very good Haiku. Nice work Fallen!

The gold award and Merit winner is Katrina18!
In my memories
All future actions undone
I find solace there

Haven and solace have long been put together and this Haiku utilizes that. The mind is indeed a place of solace - where one can escape from the past, the present or the future and be free of burden - a nice definition of haven I think. Simply worded it may be but this Haiku has all the qualities that are present in the other Haiku's and works them into something golden and beautiful - perfect.

Next theme: Human nature
Next judge: FallenSky
Next deadline: Sunday the 5th of September

Well done everyone, sorry I couldn't judge more (stupid camping trips) and remember - Happy Haiku'ing.

The lonely hermit

Is he not a man?

This is a tough theme this round...I don't think I have much else to offer.

Okay so here is the real go.
Humans are selfish
We do what we please, even
if it means murder.

This may change but I'm not quite sure.
