A Haiku is a Japanese lyric verse form having three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables, traditionally invoking an aspect of nature or the seasons.
Well, that said, heres the rules:
1) The Haiku must be original (no plagarizing)! 2) It must fit the weeks theme 3) It must be submitted before the deadline 4) It must be submitted for the contest (no using works previously written) 5) One Submission per user 6) The Same User cannot win twice in a row (but there welcome to submit!)
Hopefully oneday the winner could get a merit...
The Deadline will always be a Wednsday, so the deadline for the first theme will be Wednsday, September 2. The theme is The Pond
The round is over. I may have the judging done after school today. It depends on my homework. If not, again the latest is this weekend. Good luck to all1
Well, what a good round of haiku. Let me just say to all that you did a magnificent job.
If you were not placed in the top 5, but still want a critic from me, contact me with your haiku and I will be more than glad to comment. Again, I am doing the top 5 rank and critic.
If you guys don't generally know how I judge, I copy and paste all the poems on Word. Then I take away the ones that definitely will not make it. I read each one, and take away the one I dislike the most. Then repeat. Once I'm left with five, I organize them least to greatest, and well-ah!
22 were submitted this round. Nice job.
LET TEH JUJJING COMMENSE!!!11!!111!11!!!! _____________________________________________________________________
5th Place: Peter20
There's no end I see God has forgotten this place Yet I continue
I loved the thought you put in this. It touched me very much. The picture of an abandoned somebody, keeps on going. Well done. It could use some punctuation, but it was very good. 5th place cookie!
4th Place: jeol
Far in the distance, The forgotten road stretches, There be my lost home.
The image I saw was great, jeol. Your wording makes a good story in 19 syllables. The path to your new home. I love it. Keep it up brother! 4th place cookie awarded to my brother jeol!
3rd Place: Maverick4
Cast out by the world, No one here to wipe my tears, Emotions erupt
You quit judging and come back with this crap? Seriously? Just kidding. I liked this one, Mav. The road has shed some emotions on the fellow followers. Now I feel bad. But great job! 3rd place... Um... All out of cookies... Have a Hot Pocket... *hands Mav frozen Hot Pocket*
2nd Place: Ernie15
Aimlessly searching Wandering for days on end Yet, going nowhere
So, friggin, close, to a first place merit. I really liked the twist you made on the theme, it was nice. The road can tell many stories; yours was one of my favorites. Please, keep it up!
1st Place Merit Winner: HahiHa
Believed to be naught, A myth; but I remember, For I strayed on it.
The wording, excellent. Reading it out loud was beautiful, and the moral behind it tells a story that makes an excellent haiku. Congrats HahiHa, you won a merit! ___________________________________________________________________
Congrats to everybody who placed for your hard work, HahiHa for your merit (make sure to contact a mod for it), and all of the other participants. Very proud!
As Thanksgiving is approaching, I don't want to stress anybody out with writing it and preparing for family and friends for feasting. So I will extend the due date to November 23rd (the day before Thanksgiving), for us to celebrate, and then judge and start the next round. This week's theme will be Chasing the Wind. Good luck, and happy Thanksgiving!
