A Haiku is a Japanese lyric verse form having three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables, traditionally invoking an aspect of nature or the seasons.
Well, that said, heres the rules:
1) The Haiku must be original (no plagarizing)! 2) It must fit the weeks theme 3) It must be submitted before the deadline 4) It must be submitted for the contest (no using works previously written) 5) One Submission per user 6) The Same User cannot win twice in a row (but there welcome to submit!)
Hopefully oneday the winner could get a merit...
The Deadline will always be a Wednsday, so the deadline for the first theme will be Wednsday, September 2. The theme is The Pond
The Haiku contest currently lacks a judge as the original judges seemingly have abandoned it or forgotten about it. Until there is a new judge assigned or the original judges come forth, there will be no judging (obviously), and this thread will be locked. When a judge is found, throw me a comment and the thread will be back into business for better or worse. Kthnxbai.
Some people might win two awards in this one. Also, and this is important for all future competitions, I go for variety and other sides beyond all others, followed by content. Have another side of the theme no one else has, and have awesome content/meaning and you've just won.
WTF Award - FloydTC
wtf I dont understand haiku what is a haiku?
Honestly, WTF?
Cold Turkey Award - Superpickle
Going cold-turkey Shaking uncontrolably Habit's hard to kick
I did actually like this one, the sense of quitting is there. I would place it if I had enough room.
Apocalypse Award - Therius
The end is near When we sell ourselves to not... Humanity gone.
I'm not exactly sure how this fits the theme. I like the dark theme, though.
I'm Quitting Award - Dudeguy
My are nails no more I need you back, so bad But I must stay strong
It's decent, and it has some amount of meaning. Not bad at all.
Whoops Award - Sourwhatup
My mind has lost thought As I try and get back up I slip and fall again
Lucky you fixed it, eh?
Relapse Award - Sourwhatup
My mind has lost thought As I try and get back up I fall once again
I quite like this one, and it would have placed. It has a nice rhythm for a haiku as well.
I Guess? Award - Owen
Haikus are so fun Simple, yet enjoyable Wow; this fits the theme.
I guess it fits the theme. Not sure how . . . .
Physical Addiction Award - Thyll
I can't escape this My body won't allow me For fear I will break
It placed seventh for what I'm concerned. It was very good.
Not Quite Award - Howlett
Addicted to this Try get rid of this habbit Wish it could leave me
Not the best, but not quite as bad as you thought.
Here You Go Award - Ernie
I can't stop coughing Give me the Robitussin Or prepare to die
You can have the Robitussin! xD Seems like a comical cross between serious and comedy.
I'm Lost Award - Hypoxia
My mind is now lost To a gripping compulsion Undeniable
It's hard to see the relation to the theme, but it says it for sure.
Unintended Innuendo Award - Bronze
Jet, boost, shoot my disc Ski down the slope, touch the flag, It's only a game?
SilentQ gave you this award, lol.
I Don't Need Help Award - Marioman
Never ending guilt Intervention not needed Don't make me do it
Don't worry, we won't.
Vocabulary Award - Greene
Mind draws in, and holds Slips into solipsism Never to release
I had to look up solipsism, thus earning you this award.
Now for the winners!
Dam*, this was hard. I must say, everyone's haiku's were VERY good, thus making my job just that much more difficult. Probably took me an hour to judge these. So many good entries that I must say this: Everyone's a winner, not matter where you placed, even if you didn't make the top 6.
Wood Award - Kyouzou
Inhaling white smoke coughing, hacking. Lungs spasm cancerous growths build
This one was very good, despite the mess up with syllables first time around. The imagery was quite nice. Well done.
Bronze Award - Bronze (Irony!)
Jet, boost, shoot my disc Ski down the slope, touch the flag, It's only a game?
Yes it is only a game. The video game addiction side added a bit of variety as well.
Silver Award - Marioman
Never ending guilt Intervention not needed Don't make me do it
It was very good, and added the object of intervention, which is common for many heavy addicts. Very good.
Gold Award - Crab
There's no right amount Too much is never too much I can't get enough
Nice description of the evolution of addiction. It's also actually great. Wonderful.
Platinum Award - Devoidless
Flame, a soft inhale Smoke lazily drifts upward Compulsion, sorrow
This one would have won, had you not won the last theme. It employs what I look for most masterfully.
Diamond Award - Greene
Mind draws in, and holds Slips into solipsism Never to release
Very very very very very good, and describes what happens with some addictions very well. You are the winner of this one.
Since I'm new to judging this competition, I'll allow criticism of my judging, so if anyone has any objections to some things just tell me. I'll see if I can improve that part.
Greene, go collect your merit as soon as you wish. Congratulations!
New Theme: Fire Deadline: January 16th, 2010, Midnight AG Time
Great judging EO. Looks like my streak of winning is over lol, but I always wanted to get the Bronze award haha (I wouldn't say that it was unintended either).
Looks like you will be a good judge, good luck, and I hope you won't get tired of it anytime soon.
Looks like you will be a good judge, good luck, and I hope you won't get tired of it anytime soon.
Thank you, I feared my judging might have appeared rusty.
And I won't get sick of it. Despite taking an hour out of ever Saturday, I like judging. I'll last until at least June, if the contest lasts that long, which if there's even 6 entries each time it will.
I wouldn't say that it was unintended either
Entirely unintended. xD
Still, the innuendo helped it because of the lols. Not something I usually look for though.
