Well, not really something that really exists...though I'm sure all kids think so.

SS Syndrome a.k.a Sick Student Syndrome

Cause: School

Well, I have a specal variant. Singaporean Student Syndrome. Here's our sad story.

Did'ya know some of us crazy Singaporean kids sleep at 2am?? On a daily basis? And no, we do not stay up that late to play WOW, Guitar Hero or to watch Lost.

No, we study. Then we wake at around 4am to 6am to get to school. Then we work all the way till 5pm, come home, eat, shower, sit down and study. Or do homework. Or both.

And not just us. Our parents love to just sit down and teach us, stuff us with herbal soups (to keep the mind healthy AND comatose), or to lay us down with a nice cane to work harder. And then at 2am, we sleep. And the whole damn cycle repeats itself in the morning.

And guess what? We don't have summer holidays. And some of us get sent to extra 'tuition' classes. And this whole thing starts when we're around 9 to 10 years old.

Alright, enough of my rambling....

So, just tell us some of your own school *cough* horror stories. And since school is about to start for you guys, (And end for us! Thank God!), let's hear some of them!

Such an incredible tiring Working day but probably, when the school cycle ends, you'll be able to do everything you want with your experience and your knowlege.
Our school system(Italy) S*** a lot, we have to study a lot of idiot subject and NONE prepare us for the working life.

I don't really have any horror stories to share. I mean, I'm lucky enough to go to an American school. That means...
No physical punishment allowed
And the school is inspected to make sure it's up to scratch
And all the teachers are cool
*doing a little dance*
But I might have something...
Oh. Right. Well, we have one of those in-classroom bathroom things. First of all that spreads stink everywhere. Second of all, that means the bathroom is the same for the girls and the boys. And third of all, any small sound you make in there will be broadcast to the entire class. I learned to curb my urge to go by third grade. It's actually kind of funny when other kids are in there though.
And also I remember this. Fifth grade, I had to write a 57-page story in one night. And I know this isn't really bad(I've had worse later)but fifth grade? Fifth grade?
And this isn't really a horror story but the principal's daughter is in most of my classes and she's always getting into trouble and getting off because the principal saves her...just irks me.

Eh primary elementary. We western folk don't care =)
Well yeah, incidents do occur. But the teachers are fired.
But about fifty years ago, it used to be perfectly normal for a student to be whipped in front of everybody...how embarrassing and painful.

Technically, there aren't laws in Singapore banning teachers from whipping us. Though there was such a case that blew up.

I never had real problems with school, I do my homework (it takes me one hour per day), usually if I find the argument interesting and I have quite good votes without studying.
Unfortunately this year I have to study, cause I have very important exams this year. So soon I will learn what's the SS Syndrome.

Although I complain about school a lot, my school really isn't that bad. I'm starting high school this year. Have to wake up at six to catch the bus at 6:40. School starts at 7:30 and ends at 1:30.

I know how you feel Roland. For the entire summer I've been going to bed at 12:00 am, and getting up at 11:00 am. Yah. I get around 5-7 hours sleep a night. The good thing is I run on very little sleep. 8 hours is the most I need, and it's usually 6-7 for me to run fine. But I've been a lot more active this summer so it's pretty hard.

But otherwise I'm really lucky. I've always had great teachers and never have to do homework because of my natural intelligence letting me squeak by on test marks. For this year and last though I've been really trying to get my grades up, because if I could only do homework I could get 90s in everything.

Mine ends next week, begins again in roughly four weeks and ends again two weeks after that.

been doing that since I was 9

Strangely enough, I've began waking up really early when I was about 9 or 10 years old. If I was here in the Philippines during my earlier years, I would of probably begun that as a 6 or seven year old.

Well, I don't have as much homework as you do.

Count your blessings people.

You just reminded me of that hymn I sing at church.
