The level of contests in the forums is rising rapidly, but it can take days, maybe weeks, to notify a mod and ask for a merit prize, then it can take a few more weeks just to receive that prize. But that shouldn't be the way contests should be.
I think that there should be a seperate branch in the AG staff devoted completely to contest moderation, since we don't get very much of it.
Contest mods CAN: -Only moderate threads that they or other contest mods create. -Award merit prizes to winners of contests created by contest mods. -Only create contests that are worth the prize and actually take skill to win. -Type in a different color than green or blue or standard black. -Create contests in any section they like.
Contest Mods CANNOT: -Ban People. -Stick Threads. -Abuse their power. -Moderate in threads not made by other contest mods.
Just a little idea I came up with. I'm sure it's already been suggested, but I didn't really look. What do you guys think?
And feel free to alter any of the things I said if they don't seem right. Like I say, it's merely a thought.
I doubt this will ever end up happening, but it's worth a shot. You people know how it works, you make a suggestion and nothing ever happens. Good idea, but I don't think this is any different.
The admins will select them. The same way normal mods are chosen.
You mine as well make them a normal mod then. If there were contest mods, then the admins will obviously choose someone with the same requirements as a normal mod. So it's either all, or nothing. Shayneii is right.
I'm sure it's been suggested somewhere, but I didn't bother to look for it because my ideas probably differ from those who have come with the ideas before me.
And there have been many different variations of mods suggested.
Really? Name 5. And this mod type would be very beneficial to contest regulars, which make up a fair amount of our community.
AG has said over and over that you are either a full mod, or you aren't one.
Really? Name 5. And this mod type would be very beneficial to contest regulars, which make up a fair amount of our community.
1) Contest Mods ( I'm pretty suer they have been selected before. 2)Forum Mods- mods for the forums only 3) Mod helpers (many names for this) help mods moderate 4) Merit Mods- give out merits only 5) I'm pretty sure someone could name another suggested before.
If we trusted a user enough to make them a mini-mod, they why wouldn't we just make them a full moderator? This just doesn't make sense to me. Why give them some tools, but not others? So it is ok if less trustworthy members are given only a certain selection of tools to possibly abuse instead of all of them... I think it is pretty much an all or nothing thing. If we want someone to be a moderator, we ask them to join the team.
There really is no in between. Sorry :-\\\\
And it doesn't take that long to get a merit... and it's not like a life or death situation... lol mods have lives (too?) you know
Nahh...they'd find someone who they can trust with merit awarding powers but not with ban powers. Also someone who is particularly active in contests.
What really is the difference? To be able to award merits you need to know what a good merit is. To be able to ban somebody, you need to know if they've done something horribly wrong. I think anyone with common sense can figure that out.
Also "newbies" will go up to these mods and report spam to them. What will that mod do? He or she can't ban. So he or she can't do anything about it?

New rule: Contest mods can only award merits on their own profile. That way, they can only give merits to the winners of contests, and not to game reviews.

It should be made clear that contest mods don't handle that sort of thing. If they still report spam to them, the contest mods can just notify them that they can't do anything about it and that spam should not be reported to contest mods.

These "newbies" will not understand anything. It's made clear of what merits are in the forums, but they still don't understand.

And now "newbies" see that this mod is awarding merits. Now they think this mod can now award merits for game comments too!

Contest mods or not, newbies are still never going to understand anything. So if they do report spam to a contest mod, a contest mod can just redirect them to a regular mod's profile and tell them to not report spam to other contest mods.
Successful contest mods should make it clear on their profile that they aren't regular mods. Newbies may not read it, but newbies never read anything anyway...

Okay, just forget about newbies. They shouldn't affect the decision of creating contest mods. If it's clearly posted that contest mods are not regular mods, and if every contest mod has it in their about to not report spam to them or other contest mods, than it should work out fine, newbie-wise.
