It's come to my attention that the community of Armor Games does not do well when it comes to trolls. That's why I suggest that before someone comes into the forums the first time, they should have to take a short quiz. Questions would include what is a troll/spammer/etc, how should you react to them, what not to do, and other things that would help reduce the impact of these people.
Well I suppose this suggestion was more a suggestion to get people to be aware of trolls, not to make sure we're all experts on them. So an easy to read page with a few important general rules and infomation, would wok just as well.
@Franken
I don't think they use IP or MAC bans, other wise 420 wouldn't be here.
I was thinking the little quiz would just be the forums, and you'd still be able to get to the site if you get them wrong. It would just show the right answers, hopefully people would read them, and they'd be in. Just a quick little process that wouldn't take more than a minute or two.
So not the greatest idea, but I wanted to see what you guys thought. Thanks for pointing out the flaws. Us regulars can just point the new users in the right direction if they need a little help, no need to scare people away with troll warnings.
I defintely agree that we need IP bans, but I dint see them coming anytime soon. It's been something people have been asking for since the new site luanched.
That's exactly what I'm so confused about. What do they have to fear by giving out IP bans? Obviously they can revise those bans if they mouseslip or something. And you can't exactly fully block someone on gmail...
Maybe I've been in forums for too long, but IP bans prevent a lot of headaches and hacking, which none of us need.
Ok well i am just going to sat that this would be useless. Trolls,spammers, flamers would chose the right answers and then when they post they would, troll, spam, and flame.
I am not a fan of alt accouts,not just for banned people trying to get back on but the ones that people use to just screw around with; and we saw today how evil alts are when TSL was screwd with.
Yes, if they are in fact alts. However, if they, the mods, figure out that you have 2 accounts without permission, they would (I hope) regular ban the alt and temp ban the original one, with a warning to not make alts.
If it was in TSL3's sense, then that is a whole different person, so an IP ban wouldn't affect him directly. It would take a ton of weight off him, mentally.
proxies don't provide IP addresses, they only use the internal address of their server, which is the opposite, to configure the blocked site into unblockable. You still use your IP address, oh yes...
OK AG has a little problem these days with troll, but I think that having to take a quiz before joining would not help and it would make the new users not to join or break the rules.
I've seen quizzes and other hurdles on other sites. In my experience it's little more than a token.
Also, anybody and his dog can use a proxy these days, and IP-bans are unwieldy. Despite appearances, we also like to run this site with minimal interruptions. If we really thought the trolling activity (whatever there is) was occuring to the point where the forums themselves were being harmed, then of course we would take the appropriate action.
Lawsuits aren't appropriate unless there's actually something to litigate or even request a "cease and desist" order over. Minor irritations, like mosquitoes, are hardly worth that kind of effort. Or money.
