If you still have a Gamecube, you can pick up my favorite RPG ever, and actually my favorite game ever. And that's big for someone who plays shitloads of games like me. It's called Tales of Symphonia, it's got an unbelievably amazing story, great style, good mix of funny and serious characters, great range of weapons and armor, lots of worthwhile secrets to be found(and useless, like badass weapons), gameplay is just so great, although could be a bit more difficult, I think you can change the difficulty to something harder which I would suggest. I'd say something about the story but I don't want to ruin it. Try it out.
Squeage has a point, Baldur's Gate/Baldur's Gate 2 are pretty solid RPGs for anyone who is willing to give up many hours of your life before ever understanding the mechanics.
Lol... Golden Sun games were awesome. But those final bosses were always so much harder than the rest of the game, was ridiculous. Had to grind like 15 hours alone to even stand a chance against final boss.
