Teddy Roosevelt was an imperialist and a racist. I don't see why people are so in love with him.

That doesn't mean that slavery wasn't still going on.

I like Lincoln myself, being too lazy to think of another.

You mean that dude that freed the slaves? Well in half the country...the half that didn't support HIM...

The US isn't and wasn't a direct democracy. Why should he have listened to the wishes of the Southern masses?

I'm just pointing out he isn't one to be idolized. A man who freed the slaves not because it was wrong to have slaves, but as a punishment for those who did not agree with him.

Nice act. Bad motivation.

actually bluesbros Lincoln didn't want to free slaves. He wanted to keep slavery the way it was, however the southerners thought he wanted to take their slaves. Because of this they seceded. Not long after THEY attacked a US fort and started the United States Civil War with "The Shot heard 'round the world".

Sooo ya, his motivation wasn't to punish. The country was attacked and without war the country would be divided and/or still have slavery today.

So I say good motivation.

I'm the agnostic socialist liberal; your worst nightmare!

And I'm the agnostic capitalist conservative!

Because it decreases government funding making debt more likely and reducing government programs, grants, etc.
