What is evil? Honestly, how do we know what is evil, and what is good? If we say murder is evil, somewone could honestly believe not to murder is evil. Also with beliefs somewone believes a religion is wrong or evil, well that person thinks the same thing about the other. I don't think you can know what's right and wrong unless you have an ultimate standard of perfection. I believe God has set the ultimate standard of perfection for us, but we are not perfect and we fail to meet this standard. What do you guys think?
Oh I understand that it is normal. And in the UK it is apparently normal for the government to pass out pamplets telling teens to masturbate once a day.
I believe God has set the ultimate standard of perfection for us, but we are not perfect and we fail to meet this standard. What do you guys think?
Clearly by this statement you see morality as objective. Here's a question. Would you consider slavery good or evil?
Evil is the absense of good. But what is good? How do we know what is good? What we think is good others think is evil so can it realy be good?
Okay we eliminate what you consider to be good 'oof' it never existed, you never heard of it. Now by what you say here everything that exists in this state is evil. How do you know that it is evil?
I find the belief that good and evil do not exist to be some what disturbing. I find that such a belief only leads to damnation. For example, let's take a pretty extreme case of evil: genocide. I would say -and I think that most would agree- that genocide is evil. But what if this particular genocide isn't evil from the perspective of those committing it? Does this make evil purely based on perspective? I think not. This makes those who believe themselves to be in the right (in this case) wrong.
PS: This is more or less an alignment thread. Everyone has their own opinion and will debate. The difference between this and any other debate thread is that no amount of logic or reason can make anyone's opinion more valid or backed-up than anyone else. In short, no one's right. 'Cept me.
But what if this particular genocide isn't evil from the perspective of those committing it? Does this make evil purely based on perspective? I think not. This makes those who believe themselves to be in the right (in this case) wrong.
Who determines who is right and who is wrong here?
But what if this particular genocide isn't evil from the perspective of those committing it?
Well Israel wiped out 7 pagan nations to win their homeland. God told them to do it. Of course if they would have behaved themselves it wouldn't have come to that.
Evil is what is not good. The question is what is good?
Science is the only good thing that ever happened to this world, I don't see ''God'' healing my broken leg with his imaginary powers lol, you can pray all you want but the imaginary phone ain't gonna answer your call
God saw all of his creation as good.
his creations were always good at destroying each other lol
