I PossibleInstability, am starting a club where fellow Atheists can meet each other and talk. I have met few Atheists and I would like to meet some more.
Could it be possible that the contradiction is withing the people's understanding as opposed to the God itself? I really think that Jews and Christians believe in the exact same God.
(I hope you don't mind. I'm not trying to trip you up;I'm really enjoying the intellectual discussion. : D )

Possibly in some people, but most of the time if you look deep enough into scripture you'll find that it is not the direct word from God unless, God was a Racist/Sexist/Pro-Slavery/Scared of Groin Attacks/etc. And that is not the kind of God I think people should believe in, if they were to believe in one.
And you may be right, trayzrulz. I'm not too familiar with the Jewish God, so I wouldn't know the comparison between both religions.
OK CAN WE ALL TAKE AN F'ING CHILL PILL PLEASE .... thank you ... can we stop arguing and just share thoughts not find holes and try to make them bigger thank you
I actually happen to be taking a class on the Pentateuch (first 5 books of the Old Testament) right now! I am by no means an expert, but I do find it interesting to study. Unless someone is a fundamentalist, Christians and Jews do not take the Bible literally word for word. They know that is not the direct word of God. The Old Testament is actually comprised of 4 separate authors who were concerned with their religious message as opposed to their literal message, so there is a lot of symbolism that should not be taken literally (example. God made the world in 7 days).
Also, agreed with Flippin-- this is a good discusssion!
Like I said before, it isn't supposed to be literal. I know...it sounds crazy! But we are supposed to understand the symbols and illusions in the text-- 7 means completion and perfection, 40 means a time of transition in which there is teaching and testing, 6 means so close to perfection that it is evil. Think of Shakespeare-- why didn't he just said "Do you love me?" instead of "How doth though love thee?" It is the language they chose to use to portray their story.

Couldn't have said it better. So I guess the argument is over.

...No... That subject is highly debatable. Some people will believe differently than others. I still think it was a dick-move to not make the Bible literal. (That is if it was the word of God, which I doubt.)
