Greetings, if you are looking here, it means you are fed up with the Colony hacks. I hope that Krin sees this and attempts to follow my proposition, as i KNOW it would reduce hacking to a bare minimum.
1: Have administrators. I understand why this may be improbable seeing as it's a free game, but it really is a necessity. Somebody who can be told "xyz is cheating by doing this." All games within the past 1 hour are recorded and the admin can observe the game and determine whether or not that person is cheating. If so, one time caught cheating results in an account closure. New problem "hackers can just make a new account...or play as guest..." refer to steps 2+3.
2: Link Colony accounts to an email address. When you insert your name and password, also require an email address. ONCE AN EMAIL HAS BEEN USED, MAKE IT UNABLE TO LINK TO A NEW ACCOUNT. That means, one email: one account. If people want to hack, they have to keep on making email accounts which is both time consuming and boring.
3: The guest problem: Eliminate guests. What is the purpose of a guest? To allow new players to experience online play? If a person wants to try online play, they should only need to insert a username, create a password, email address, and they can play...nobody enjoys playing with a guest, it's a risk to have on your team, they either don't know what a bank is, are rank 10's in hiding, or hackers. Get rid of them.
Feel free to comment upon whether you think this is a good or bad idea, or whether it will even work. Personally, I think it would vastly reduce the hacking going on, but I also understand it would be difficult to get admins.
I would not recommend giving links to Colony hacks, if that's what you mean. What I would do is e-mail Jakrin about this issue, asking her to place moderators into the game to maintain order. MMO games NEED moderators because you can't expect 12 year old kids not to do stupid things such as hacking and flaming.
As for people saying that we should remove certain features like the Guest option and Multiplayer option in general, that is stupid. I'm not saying you are stupid, the suggestion is because Guests can preview how the Multiplayer interface is, without ACTUALLY making an account that they might regret.
I know this doesn't really belong here but I kind of want to knock two birds with one stone, so, I think you should be able to change your password somewhere in the game. I, personally, don't need to, but I know some people use words like 'History' or 'Toryhis' as their passwords and if they ever want to change it to something better, they can't.
I kinda hate the hacking but since I only play once in a while it doesn't really bother me and when I do play I only play with people I know from here.
It depends on the potential for colony and how fun the game is. In a game I play, the ENTIRE staff of developers and admins are all volunteers, who program and moderate just because they love the game...there is just one guy though who owns the company, and gets the final say in things, but the players themselves can sign up to be a dev and help program the game.
Of course, that one was a LOT more complicated than this flash game--but by the looks of the community *points to General Colony Discussion thread*, it might work out.
This is so simple. Moderators. Moderators, recording, and IP Bans.
I played a game that used to have tons of hackers but what the game makers did was give responsible, trustworthy, and fair players moderator status. This status allows Moderators to ban players by types commands such as:
That's one example. They type that command, in-game, game room, or lobby, and they are instantly banned. Hackers of course, would get a one week ban for their first offense, and for their second offense, one year. I doubt anyone would still want to play after a year if they hacked.
They encouraged regular players to record as many hackers as possible using screen-recording devices such as Hypercam 3 and Camstudio.
I disagree with you on the mandatory e-mail list. Most players are 12 and under with no e-mail address. It should not be based on e-mail account, because some siblings share e-mail accounts and might want to play the same game, only to find out they can't because of their other sibling. What should really happen, is it should ban their IP, so no computer in the entire house can play the game, nor can the banned account be used on any other computer.
These are not new ideas, all of which have been implemented and work fine. I think Moderators would get a little reward.
I have this schoolmate who died because she fell chest first really hard on the ground when she was dancing.
Damn sorry is it really that easy to die? I have felled 10 feet out of tree and lance on my back (in grass) and not died,it knocked the hell out of me though and i layed there for a while.
there should be an "hacker alarm" button, when clicked it will record the entire fight. the button cant be directed too anyone (cant report player x just becouse hes beating you fairly, it puts ALL people in the spot light)
thats a way to find hackers, but to get rid of them. IP ban. there IP and any IP withing 50m(more or less) of that one also gets perm ban. maybe even a pan from armor games its self! its harsh punishment, but things can only get worse without some very drastic punishments, the last 3 or 4 games i played there where at least 50 sphings within the first 60 seconds of playing!
@ eachday: the glitchers you see on colony generally use them in every game they play, i on the other hand use glitches when it is ABSOLUTELY neccessery, so i use them when we are low on troops and are in need of missiles or whatever is restricted. (i glitch like, once every month or so.)
I have found this game a couple weeks ago and played some enjoyable games, but the last few days it seems almost impossible to play normally. People who just like to play and enjoy the game whether they win or lose cant just wait until all losers get fed up with their fake 'winning' since there are too many losers worldwide.
I believe it must be possible to record the game stats and analyze them automatically serverside for the matter of game events going correspondingly to the designed game mechanics. IP ban should pretty much deal with the matter since flash game is not the thing one can web-proxy for example.
Optional settings to not allow guests - for those who want - although I dont agree guests must be all banned, some people just dont want to bother with registration logging in stuff - and additional account stats where players can mark each other after the game: like, i played this guy and hes alright; so others can look into account and see those trust marks. Although it is also the matter that can be cheated easily, so the technical part mentioned earlier must be a priority.
