I do not feel very comfortable around homosexual people, I feel like there out to get my bum haha. I really dont understand why i feel like this, whenever i spot a homo i stay as far away as i can. I feel homophobia is just a natural reaction to something you dont like, for example snakes or spiders its just a phobia. I think that this phobia will never go away in alot of people, just because its natural. Although many people over come their phobias. What do ou all think of homophobia or phobias at all?

Oh and just one more thing.

Guys, why do you stress to say that gays are born that way?
If you aren't then lets have a nice peaceful argument please?

And btw, I do tolerate them :-$

In no uncertain terms, homophobia should not be considered a phobic disorder. Since the fear is one based on a fear itself it is more a self imposed burden brought on by anxiety over an unknown. Scared of homosexual people marks someone as scared and uncertain of their own sexuality in the same way a person could be scared of heterosexual people. Why is it relevant what someone does in the privacy of their own bedroom? What deep, horrific reason can be created to be afraid of a human being who has (unless otherwise stated) done absolutely nothing to you other than to exist with a different (or possibly the same) choice of sexual partner? I'm really disappointed with how rapidly the United States culture has depreciated in intellectual value. With the onset of technology and the escape that provides from the real, tangible world of knowledge out there to be gleaned it is understandable...but still highly disappointing.

Ugh...so many misguided conflations...no idea where to start.

Seeing as much of this discussion from my last post (page 8 or so) to page 17 is more related to homosexuality itself I'm going to ignore it :P We're talking about homophobia here people, like the post we've seen above, yeah?

Focus!

Dtknight, I have to disagree with you there. Homophobia, is simply the fear of homosexuals. No matter where or what the fear is based from/on, it is still a fear.

You are correct in saying that alot of people are afraid of gay people because they are insecure about their own sexual orientation, but it's not only that. Some people think it is just gross, wrong, immoral, etc. Some people are genuinely afraid of homosexuals. And I bet of homosexuals aren't that "afraid," of heterosexuals, actually, I bet alot of homosexuals think that heterosexuals are jerks.

Alot of this "false," homophobia is derived from television and movies, believe it or not. Gay people aren't always looked highly upon in some movies, and that actually does rub off to the next generation.

Estel Said: alot of people are afraid of gay people because they are insecure about their own sexual orientation

Since when is it that people who are insecure about their own sexual orientation are homophobic?

Can someone explain to me when and how this was declared? I really don't want to go through 18 pages of really long posts.

There is reasons behind an opinion.

To judge all homosexuals is still an opinion. Maybe you have seen one and suddenly you think they all act like that. Pretty bad reasons.

Well your probably going to have a hard time here with TotalEstelManKrisErlee >_>

You think we are giving you a hard time? We are just trying to let people see that ignorance is not the answer. I have noticed you are getting better. We don't hate you, we just don't like some of your opinions.

What is there to debate? Really, just read all previous posts and make a choice. There is nothing else to debate.

Well, Asherlee found a study that showed 73%. Also, how is it that shocking? Let's take a teen for example. Heterosexuality is viewed as the perfect way to go while homosexuality is viewed as wrong. He starts to feel affections for another guy but thinks he loves girls. He doesn't want to show anyone that he could be homosexual. What is the one way you can easily hide homosexuality? You insult them and become homophobic because you are afraid that you might become a homosexual.

I dont agree with that either. Maybe some, but not most.

He never said most. He said a lot even though it is most.

Stop saying that homosexuals do the rape because heterosexuals are way worse in that department. 1 out of every 6 women will be sexually assaulted. 1 out of every 33 men will be sexually assaulted.
