According to a new study, the world is falling out of love with Capitalism. 26 or 27 countries surveyed (Turkey the only dissenter) agreed that there needs to be more government regulation, or a completely different economic system in place.

The free market created this economic mess, and people around the world are making it clear, the free market has to go.

*thinks this thread was made in spite of the healthcare bill being passed*

Or because I've been on the anti-Capitalist left bandwagon for a while, and that news story was just posted on the BBC.

Watch. 5 years from now, when we're on another massive high, they'll be in love with it.

We need at least SOME socialism in our life. You can't keep every business procedure free... What about all those anti-trust laws? It's keeping Walmart, Microsoft, and Google in check, preventing them from obtaining total monopolies in their type of business. A certain government Act in the late 1800s prevented corporations from selling useless goods and food that would have otherwise been poison. Useless goods meaning, corporations back then actually sold elixirs that apparently cured cancer, but did nothing of the sort when ingested. poisonous goods, meaning moldy food, and goods sold well after their expiration date, in order to save money.

These would still happen if we had no socialism in the U.S. today, so thank Uncle Sam for being able to prohibit himself from society to better off American citizens, would ya?

Ehh, that's probably true. When things are going bad, people get overly pessimistic, and when things are good, they become overly optimistic. We need a time in between to accurately judge our economic system.

I think that there are good things about socialism such as the sick, the old, and needy being taken care of moderating the corporations was not a socialistic act though. Every system we come up with is flawed, and capitalism has worked the best. You might also consider reading the gospel of wealth because it states some good reasons for capitalism.

Why would that matter unless your dumb enough to buy poison and eat it and not check the expiration date. The company should have gone out of business, but I guess you can count on stupid people to mess things up. Same thing goes for capitilism, nice idea, but when people are taking out 1000's of dollars that they don't have and buying stock with it and making the stockmarket crash, then it doesn't work. Many things would work if we didn't have to deal with people not smart enough to know not to eat poison.

completely different economic system

Yes

Yet it is not enforced.

Many a store sells these useless cure-all remedies.

Has anyone seen that magical bracelet that re-aligns the ions in your body to make you more energetic?

I've seen ads for it on tv...

It's people opening up the goods and finding out that it has mold and poison inside, so they have nothing good to eat, while they paid hard cash for it. That's what sparked the pure food and goods act.

Mood bracelets, Dimetap elixir... yeah.

The problem with this is that few understand what Capitalism is. We have a mixed economy, but most feel that the Status Quo=Capitalism

The government has gotten more and more involved, and things haven't been getting better.

I don't think so. This hasn't been the first time that the world has had an economic crisis, and it certainly won't be the last. People are upset at the moment, but they're not going to do anything about it. They'll all wait patiently until it blows over, and then as TSL3_needed pointed out, everyone will be in love with it again and worrying about something else entirely.

I don't suppose the 80% of the population that's living under $10 a day do too?

Capitalism brought us here, and it shall remain, if you disagree, it'll haunt you later in life.

Well, seeing as the thread is about 'declining faith in capitalism' - I doubt the 80% working for under 10$ a day have ever really had faith, or been in love with capitalism, so if I'm going to comment on a decline, then I have to address people that had faith in capitalism to begin with. It's like; if there's a decline in how often christians go to church, why talk about atheists?
