What really prompted this is an add that popped up while I was on this site, it had this IQ test thing, now I know those aren't official but the average was 85. That's 15 points below average. Now, to put this into perspective, your considered to be smart with an IQ of 110, that's just a 10 point change. It seems to me that so many things lately have been caused by, quite frankly, people just being stupid. Like when a person holds up a bank while he has a plastic bag over his head and doesn't cut airholes in the bag. Things like this make me wonder, are we truly getting smarter or are we going the opposite direction. From what i've read, studies show that people are becoming smarter, but is this true? Perhaps it's just that we know how the human mind works better than we used to, thus our education has been changed to fit how we learn. However, even when people pass a test or quiz in school, they forget the information by the next day. I have a very good example of this. In chemistry, we were learning polyatomic ions, and we took a quiz. The majority of the class did well. We retook the quiz the next day because our teacher really wants us to know about them and the majority of the class failed. Is temporairily memorizing something considered learning? Does anyone else have some examples or research that could help on this subject?
Oh, that kind. Well what your calling environment is just man-made enviornment. But even that we don't really control. Like what about the technological environment? Humans don't control that, except for the inventors, the rest of us just have to figure out how to use the new stuff, like iphones. And what if you can't figure it out? Then you can't communicate with anyone. So maybe you're better off just to go back to using the environment that GOD controls. So I don't think it's even stable, whatever environment you want to call it.
To a great extent, we control our environment. You are missing the point. People who couldn't take the heat before the stone age would die off in a hot climate, and eventually the trait allowing people to withstand heat would be the only trait of the two that remained.
Now we have air-conditioning. This is what I mean when I say we control our environment. Did you even try to comprehend what I was saying? Or did you ignore everything else I said and skew my words to mean something they didn't?
AS HUMAN BEINGS, WE CONTROL OUR ENVIRONMENT. WHEN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE, WE TURN ON AIR CONDITIONING. THIS IS HOW HUMANS CONTROL THEIR ENVIRONMENT.
Now my arguement is 2 pages back, because you wanted to argue about humans and how they don't quite control their environment, when they do.
God isn't real, prove it. You need at LEAST 2 sources, preferably 3. The bible alone can't be used as enough evidence to prove God as fact. That is why you have faith. Stick to it and stop using God to belittle humanity.

I dont think we are getting thicker, I think our western lifestyle gives more than is necessary. I.e. signs that say "this cup is hot" and "dont put your head out the train window" Of course there is also huge amounts of ignorance, and mostly NOT by choice. It can be a social construct, i.e. against the blacks, jews, gays etc. everyone was just cool with hating on these people at certain points in recent history, but now the haters are becoming a minority (at least on the aforementioned gays etc). Its a social thing. Does that make some people "stupid"... no. ARE some people stupid... lol.. and yes.
Oh and some of the "smartest" people I know just have NOOO common sense at all. Mayhap you guys should look into EQ testing. Its about testing someones emotional intelligence, Im guessing its just plain old common sense dressed up in tests, but it looks semi interesting.
To sum up I would say there are lots of people that take their surroundings for granted and never learn, and I think thats easier now than its ever been. Then there are people like me who open their big mouth with something to say, but still truly have a thirst for knowledge, tho sadly I never was an academic (im actually a musician, go figure). Then there are the few amazing heros (and pleeeeze dont mention any religious shiznitch) who have the brains and the common sense to really make a change, to make people stop and listen, to see past red tape and white paper and get things done. Im sure there has ALWAYS been things like this.
We live in the land of the red queen and we are all in the same place.
Simplified: The smart get smarter while the dumb get dumber
The same as how it goes with the poor and the rich...maybe because the rich often have more access to education.
But really it has been shown that the less developed countried (and therefore less intelligent) have a higher fertility rate because children are more profitable in less developed society.
However in richer societies children are a financial drain rather than a boost.
And with lots of children in poor countries with poor education...
Don't listen to online IQ tests. Also, lazy people are making a mental regression while those who want to be smart are not. It's just a matter of people not caring much these days.

Enough of this. God doesn't control the government, those who run the government control it. As far as I'm concernced, God's existence has yet to be proven. We can't prove he doesn't, but there's more evidence that he doesn't exist than their is evidence that he does.

I've provided the information in previous topics that were EXACTLY the same as this one so I won't provide it again.
The easy explanation is this:
The poor and therefore less intelligent areas of the world have more children. The richer and therefor more intelligent areas of the world have fewer children.
This adds up to an overall decrease in intelligence.
So, Mr. Scientist, can you please explain the flaws in the I.Q. for me?
Intelligence cannot be measured by education. Knowledge and intellect are very different things.
The thread is about a drop in IQ tests. And IQ tests measure some kinds of mental skills that your supposed to learn in school. It also measures other types of mental skills that you're just born with. So education is the root of the question, since it's getting worse.
This reminds me of a exam in the USA where they put people of different sects together and measured their IQs. Scientists said that Asians were the top highest IQ scorers of all, then Caucasians were in middle, but Africans were at the very lowest, way down at the bottom. Well, maybe the Scientists are wrong. Maybe the tests weren't measuring intelligence, but just the differences in education that each of the sects received?
