This is a subject that has cropped up in a couple threads already so I figure why not give it it's own thread.

So the questions
Was the Biblical Jesus a real person?
If not was there at least a historical Jesus used as a basis for the stories?
Could it have been a complete fabrication?

Please provide evidence for or against your argument. If you use the Bible provide external sources to also back up your claim.

The Old Testament was written before the New Testament. And when Jesus came... the Old Testament was already written and completed... and then people started writing the New Testament when they discovered Jesus was the Messiah.

I did mean the new testement, as in the one that deals specificly with jesus. There is NO evidence that the new testy was written whilst jesus was alive is what Im saying. If you have some evidence show me?

You tell me! Noone can agree, some say just after his death, some say over 100 years after his death. Its all speculation, and no hard evidence. So you tell me.

In a way you answered your own question. The earliest that most agree on is around 30 years after Jesus supposedly died.

The closest I could find left a gap of 33 years after Yeshua's crucifixion based on accounts of history that's not included in the Holy Bible. These were Christians in the early days who were being killed cause they would not deny Jesus.

Yeshua . . . chaos . . . Xenosaga . . . *nostalgic sigh*

Jesus was probably real in some shape or form, because a Jesus-type figure is common among different religions. Whether is was the Jesus of Nazareth the Bible speaks of is the true one or not we man never know.

It does mention him in my history book

Seriously? You are sorta on the down side, i'm guessing? *shivers* but really, don't go around trying to be a dumb ***, it's NOT a good idea.

Jesus, is real in my opinion. It's just my opinion, but hey who wants to be buhdest?

One theory I have heard as to why there are so many Jesus archetypes is that it was originally based on solar events.

Thirty years is ok then. My thing was about 64AD whenever the emperor wanted to kill the Early Christians for a fire or something. He was asking them if they were Christians and they said yes, eveen knowing they were going to be fed to the lions if they said yes. But they said yes anyway. So it's hard for me to believe that they would do that if they didn't have first hand knowledge of Jesus in the first place, or if they didn't have something written down that told them of how Jesus' name was denied three times before the crow flied away. They were probabaly the children of Christ's original groupies, the ones that decided it was time to write it down I mean.

It's quite possible a Jesus of Nazareth did exist around 2,000 years ago, but if so the story probably has some embelishments. For example, I highly doubt the entire emaculate conception, perhaps Mary didn't want her dad to know about what she'd been doing with some guy, some things never change.
The having him in a manger/barn is not that unlikely, they where traveling and even today it can be hard to get a hotel room in some places so back then a manger would have been a great find. There also could have been wisemen taking gifts to some king or maybe a king or someone important's newborn baby who stayed at the manger for some reason and decided to give the young couple a gift or three.
Jesus's message, the real important part of the story, to love each other as you do oneself, don't be an a.sshole in other words, is quite possibly what this man went around saying. Even today people travel the land with good ideas, and even today they are disliked for them. It is not hard to believe that in the middle east 2,000 years ago a man became hated by a leader for his ideas as it still happens today.
The water into wine is unlikely, but for all we know it could be embelishment for him managing to get wine when all they expected was water or something, we don't know. But, the important thing is, son of God or son of some man lost to history, if he lived he preached an important message we should all listen to, don't be an a.sshole in short, and that's what matters. It's also funny to note that out of all the old Gods and religions, most came down and killed mortals just for the fun of it sometimes but when one comes preaching peace we crucify him, maybe that in itself is a bit of a social comentary, just a thought.

I though Jesus was a virgin... though there is some evdince pointing in the direction that He did spend a considerable time with the w-hore, Mary Magdalene....

So it's hard for me to believe that they would do that if they didn't have first hand knowledge of Jesus in the first place,

If that were the case; why did most of the Jews didn't think he was the Messiah then? They saw him and had contact with him... and yet they believed that he was a false idol, and used the scriptures for his own use of power. Consider that he was related to the Jewish King David... apparently.. So whats better than claiming kingship with being the Messiah and a decedent of David?

I think that there is enough historical proof for me to believe that Jesus Christ did exist....I just don't think that he was the son of God or anything.

There is enough historical evidence that Jesus existed. He was a Master Teacher of a Jewish Sect and His sayings were collected by them as part of His being a Rabbi.

Moab, if you agree that he was real, but you don't think He was the Son of God or anything, then how did the Rabbi get to America? Cause the Mormons said He was there and they collected even more of His sayings after he was crucified. So that would be complicated cause it looks like your position to the thread's question would be that Jesus is both real and fake.

Well then, you're misinterpreting my position.
Jesus Christ was a real person. A PERSON. He died. He's dead. He's not coming back, because he's not the son of god. He existed, but he was just a human, like everyone else.
Rabbis are Jewish. Not Christian or Mormon or anything like that.
By "collected", either you mean "found" them, after he died, and have been there all along but just haven't been discovered, or it's not true.
Wait a minute...you don't think I'm Mormon, do you?

Ditto...

He is the sun of god after all... lol

No there is not. Its all word of mouth, so this does NOT count as evidence. And as for the "we wont renounce christ, even if you throw us to lions" thing. People are crazy. I will get my 70 virgins if I blow alot of innocent people up with this bomb on my chest... So killing or accepting death for a messiah makes the messiah real? no... Makes god real? No. My gf wants me to put something interesting on the screen so im off for the nicht... waaa!
