New government data shows nearly 50 million Americansâ"including a quarter of all childrenâ"struggled to get enough to eat last year. The Department of Agriculture found that nearly 17 million children lived in households in which food at times was scarce last year, four million children more than the year before. The government data has startled even anti-poverty advocates. Vicki Escarra, president of Feeding America, said, "This is unthinkable. Itâs like we are living in a Third World country.â The total number of Americans going hungry is likely even higher. The report is based on 2008 data when the unemployment rate maxed out at 7.2 percent. Since then the unemployment rate has jumped to over ten percent. David Davenport runs the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. David Davenport: âI anticipate that as the months go on, the next four to six months, weâll continue to break distribution records, weâll continue to have to expand programs like the mobile pantry, and weâll continue to have to do more and to do it with less resources.â
Combined with the fact that 25,000 children die daily because of the very preventable cause of starvation. (Thats 100 million deaths a decade)
I declare capitalism to be the most oppressive and evil system in the world.
It's complicated, farmers need to get paid for farming, but third-world countries don't have money so thus the farmers are poor and revolt, but the countries run out of food and need more. Or something like that.

Of course, the only alternative is Communism, but that would get us into an even bigger mess.

Being communist doesn't make a mess. The period of transfer to communism makes the mess.
And...I STILL can't get my head around the fact that abortion is legal...with all those uber-christianites and the republicans were in power for so long and anti-abortion is one of their things...
One reason there are starving children in one of the richest/largest countries in the world:
Abortion isn't legal.
People don't have children expecting them to be starving. I doubt anyone has children if they are in a state of starvation themselves.
*points at fascism*
That's the most oppressive system of government...and yeah. I would say free markey capitalism is about the most oppresive economy.
Your right actually, but what I tried to say is that capitalism has killed more than any other system.
Anyone has the potential to be anything they want to be my rear. For every Donald Trump there are 25,000 children.
This statement is only plausible in first world countries. In third world countries where most of the starvation takes place, that is completely ridiculous! A homeless here might be living better than the hardest working man in Africa. They often have 15 hour shifts and earn no more than a dollar or two a day!
To refute you statistically... 1% of the population owns over 50% of the wealth. Half the world is living under $3 a day. There are 25,000 children dying every day because of a stupid cause like hunger.
Under this conditions, does opportunity seem to be fair to you?
Outside of the US of course. And starvation isn't that preventable.
It isn't? We have more than enough food to feed every single person in the world. The US spends $1 billion A DAY on a war, with the reason that its spreading democracy. But when people are starving, I can only laugh at such an excuse.

This isn't feudalism. This is the result of capitalist policies.
Capitalists love to exploit the natural resources out of poor nations. In the ideas of the rich, those who control the world, poor nations are nothing but areas to install sweatshops and oil mines. They are politically motivated to keep these countries poor. The Corporation is a good documentary on this.
Guess why there is no news of ANY poverty occurring in the world while almost the whole world is filled with it? The capitalists control your media too!

I was only referring to America.
My point was not that for every trump 25,000 die.
It was that for every Trump there are many poor. Capitalism causes disparity which causes starvation.
