Now who in the world would say necessary? A war's a war. It's not a question of whether it was necessary, but rather, could it have been prevented.
However, I would just answer. Yes. Cruelly, yes. Why?
Firstly, if left in power, who knows what the Germans might do? Certainly, they would carry out genocides, and certainly, they would have prepared for war. The sooner they were off the face of the earth the better. Many people don't realise it, but the Germans nearly lost in France, their so-called feared tanks were firsly light, secondly broke down easily.
Secondly, it pushed 50 million people off. In hindsight, it was necessary to a certain extent. Overpopulation.

We have enough food to feed 8 Billion, it just isn't distributed properly. How is the world overpopulated and if it is 50 million is not a drop in the bucket to taking care of it.
umm.... OF COURSE IT WAS NECESSARY! Did you think that the Germans would just be able to kill off all the Jewish and enslave the entire world under NAZIism? What about the Japanese who bombed us at Pearl Harbor?

You said that, yet you didn't illustrate the point -- you used an example of the actual war.
The question is, "Could it have been prevented?". That, for at the very least Germany, is a yes. Hitler took many small lands before starting the war and invaded the Rhineland, which they were not supposed to be able to do, before overtaking France. After he took each of these, he convinced the other world leaders that he was done, he didn't want to take any more land; doing so with his great skills in speech. The Germans weren't even supposed to have an army. They should have strictly enforced the 'treaty' from WWI and subdued Germany before they became harder to deal with in a war situation.
As for Japan, that's not entirely certain. They were, in part, provoked by Germany, but there's a good chance they would have caused problems anyways.
They took the Rhineland 3 years before the war. All the tiny pieces didn't matter it was when Poland got gang raped by Russia and Germany that made the mess.
Which they were not supposed to do due to the treaty from WWI.
Action should have been taken the second they did so, no excuses whatsoever. They weren't supposed to even be building an army to overtake the Rhineland. That's not even close to acceptable.
German's side in starting WWII could have been prevented.
Germany should not have been singled out as the only nation responsible for the war. Austria should have had to pay reparations as well. And Germany still hasn't payed us back their loans. GRRR.

It doesn't matter. The treaty was made. It was a legal, binding document which needed to be followed for a reason, and wasn't.
