When the United states was founded it was founded with freedom of religion, but what i dont understand is why in modern times is religion so important. Even on this site religion seems to make the top 3-5 topics on the World Events, Politics, Religion, Etc. Forum. Why why is this such a debate in the modern times? And why dint this stop in 1782 when the country was officially founded?
I want your answers!

another religion thread.......

Why why is this such a debate in the modern times?

why not? There is about 10% atheism in America right now and that field is growing. The lack of belief is rising, and that needs to be addressed in public internet forums.

Might want to check your dates friend. Even in the late 1700s religion was talked about quite a bit especially with all the different views that were, and still are, arising at the time. Why would today be any different?

Well look who made the thread, Mr. "Jesus was drunk when he created Christianity." That's partly why it is such a big deal, because you made it one!

People's beliefs are huge in these modern times. It's a huge problem in the Middle East right at this very moment. Radicals and extremists of Islam are going around crashing planes into things, committing suicide bombings, and oppressing girls.

Most of that 10% is just atheist because either they think the world sucks or they want to be "cool"... No offense dude.

But it is just a good thing to debate about. Sure, it makes some enemies, but we can learn more about the debates in religion.

I would argue that the problem is not their beliefs, but they need to learn that all the violence found in the Koran and the other Islamic books is outdated. I will post such verses again if I must. Many of them believe that their violence hastens the coming of their savior Mahdi.

Its not cool to be an atheist, if anything its cool to be Christian(its not, but its closer to being cool).

This is why there are so many religious threads. Intolerant Christians who can't respect any one's belief other than their own. I only have to say one thing to both of you:

uber fail

I have to appreciate the irony of this thread. A religion debate thread debating on why we have religious debates.

True mage, its LOL worthy.
We have the debate becase maney people, such as myself, think religion is what people made up as a form of science used to explain things. But now, science is improved so we know how things work, thus don't need to believe in dieties. But the religios people have there side becase it has been beat into there heads since birth, and beat into there parents heads for maney generations, witch is why we still have it.

Religion is talked about in the modern times because, many of the aspects that people have held onto since the olden times have been carried onto the modern age. Also, the fact that we no longer as a people grip our holy texts as the only way of life, where we no longer base every action we take onto one superior being, is also the reason we have these debates.

Where as, we the people, start to ask, and think about what we are worshiping. You know? Back then - people basically prayed and worshiped whoever the church told them to. Now people have the right to question the beliefs. Freedom of speech, freedom of thought.

Humans.

Thank you for that, I thought I was the only one observing the obvious.
My views about religion? I'm a chrisian, but I don't bash anybody for their beliefs, cause then I'd just be another prejudice ***hole, which is a growing group in this country. Like a good song by The Beatles.....just Let It Be

Epic fail. You assume things like an idiot.

You want to know why people are atheists? Because of the intolerable Christians like you who have no respect for other people's religion. I hate to break it to you Mr. Nazi, but we have something called freedom of religion, something you obviously don't understand.

Well I know I don't think the world sucks and I'm not an atheist just because I think it's cool. From my observations of other atheists most of them didn't think the world sucks or are doing it just to be cool either.

It would seem to me you have in inaccurate view of atheists.

Hey a buddy I don't really think you have a right to be calling someone a nazi in any shape of the imagination. Why don't you go take a break and have some Kool Aid or sumthin jeese.
