Wow, the Spanish Inquisition is well known. Its in about every history book. Its better known than the Spanish- American war. The most unknown war I believe is the Finnish Civil War. It occurred in 1918, and was due to WWI.
we hear of wars from our ancestors or books. since our ancestors and book writers never knew about it, how can we know it?
We hear of stuff from class internet or television nowadays....And I am certain the topic is meant to be the least known war of all time. If it was unknown it never happened. And I am most certain than one war may be unknown to one person, but known to another.
The Utah war also known as the Mormon war/rebellion. I don't think many people have heard of it despite the fact it involved nearly a third of the US Army. Utah War
The Arkansas Militia War which is only slightly better known as The Militia War. During the reconstruction, Governor Clayton was expanding black voting rights while restricting former confederate voting rights. The KKK didn't like it so they began to beat and kill black and white republicans. It became so bad that the governor declared martial law. From there the militia was appointed to restore order. The only real notable person besides Governor Clayton was Daniel Phillips Upham who was in charge of the militia. He was an extremely ruthless person who had a deep hatred of the Klan. One of Upham's famous quotes about the Klan is "nothing but good square honest killing will ever do them any good". Eventually he was able to kill or drive the KKK out of Arkansas.
There were plenty of ancient wars that were never recorded.
I personally agree with Drace. The Spanish Civil War was huge for world politics before WWII. But most history books spend 95% of the time talking about the Great Depression for the 1930's.
The Winter War was also very unknown. Finland was invaded by the Soviet Union in 1939. Despite being outnumbered 3:1 in men, 20:1 in airplanes, and 100:1 in tanks, the Finns fought back and stopped the Russians dead in their tracks. Finland only lost 10% of their territory by the end of the war. This gave Hitler the indication that the Soviet Union was weak, which led him to believe that his army could conquer Russia easily. Had Russia conquered Finland with ease, Hitler may have never tried invading the Soviet Union. What a different world it would have been...
I would assume that the most unknown war would have taken place during the Dark Ages of medival times, when history is only a guess, due to the many conflicts, which disrupted education and historical record keeping.
Just a heads up, if you reply an "I don't know" reply on a thread that asks what you think the "least known" war of all time is, then it's SPAM *flags said comments* .
Ehh... I can name you an EVENT of a war that few realize: The occupation of China by Japanese during WWII. Everyone else was worried about the Holocaust and the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but...nothing "dramatic" or "serious" happened with the Japanese occupation of China, so it was sort of in-the-dark by most people.
I had to laugh at this one. The Soviets had 100 tanks, and the Finnish only had ONE (ratio wise). I know this event, because I did research on a Sabaton song called Metal Machine, explaining the only tank on the Finnish side that held the Soviets back. ("I'm a metal machine [it's close to midnight and he's howling at the moon] the only metal machine"....etc. etc.)
That being said, the Finnish were pretty beast for them to stand up to such a beastier army. Really, the Soviets were the only nation that the Germans feared (USA proved to be feared later).
