[url=http://abcnews.go.com/2020/Health/story?id=7880954&age=4] theres the link i dont know if it will work....anyways there saying she MAY be the secret to ageing if so im guessing that would mean immortaility? i for one would be really excited about that so what are your thoughts on this? post away... P.S im not sure if this should be in the tavern or WEAP
I wouldn't worry about her living forever: At some point she will die. Everyone dies. SHe might have an accident or something.
And I expect her to die of old age too. At some point, her organs will fail, her heart will stop or her brain shuts down. Whichever happens first. She might also have other problems due to her condition. And I have to admit the article is very small. One paragraph and a few photos. Almost a hoax or exaggeration...
That is the way of evolution: if the random mutation proves useful, it will be passed toward future generations, if not, well...
Many mutations aren't random: They're accidents. And some are very special cases, that only happen once or twice. And it doesn't look to me as if this mutation is useful, as it does not fit well in current society. It could perfectly well ruin the girl's life.
That is a very strange thing going on for "Brooke" here. I theory of mine (I did not read the whole article) is that maybe Brooke's DNA strand got messed up and does not have the proper 'blueprints' to continue on growing physically and maybe mentally, but I don't see how Brooke could live forever.
A mutation is a change in the original genetics of an anomaly. They do not help the species except in certain situtions. Even when they do help the species, the gene is still passive. Dominant genes are always dominant and passive are always passive.
And then the giraffes with a short neck died of starvation, only long-neck were able to reproduce and... TA-DAH! New dominant gene! The old survival of the fittest...
also from aloooong time ago on science channel I remember seeing that wrinkles are caused from mitochonrian and/or protein deposits caving.
It's caused by the lack of collagen in your skin. Young people have high amounts of it still working, which is why their skin quickly bounces back when you pull it and release. If you do this with old people skin, it takes longer amounts of time to go back to its original state. Since they have less amounts of collagen, their skin isn't as tight and therefore have wrinkles. NOTHING about mitochondria.
She does not age, but will she still die at a reasonable age?
I say she will remain a child and die at the natural age. Remaining an infant for 60+ years sounds saddening to me though. What I don't want to believe may be medically true. But what do I know? ;-)

Y'know Xverb I don't rightly know. She's physically a child, but nothing is told of her mentally.
Let's play a game for now. Say she gets to age 20 but physically she's age 2. Let's also say every 10 years she gains 1 year physically (maybe mentally). She will get to 210 years old before physically becoming an adult if these conditions are true O_o
Heck, let's also say that these doctors do figure out the reason behind all this and starts treating every new generation citizen. CURSES. I was born 20 years shy of having this happen.
