What do you think about it? Lets debate whether cams should be in public facilities or not? Whats your view?

I saw this on the news.

In public places cams are fine, but not in private places, much less bedrooms.

Someone needs to loose their jobs, teaching certifications, and see the inside of a jail cell over this, in fact, several people do. I'd charge them with spying, stalking, and quite possibly child porn (who knows when they turned the cameras on, they could have caught the student undressing or something similar). The judge who gets this case needs to make some examples of these people and make sure it is clear schools have no authority outside of their campus and functions. This is a gross invasion of privacy and the law needs to come down hard on whoever is responsible.

They probably did.
A girl told her mother she had undressed with the laptop open before.
I'm not sure as to whether or not the camera was turned on/activated though.

I agree this vastly oversteps the bounds I school should be allowed to take.

Hmph. I say it isn't that big of a deal, so long as they didn't use them for intrusive purposes. It still is quite the invasion of privacy.

Now, they must have hacked the computers to gain access, no?

Hacking = illegal.

I would call secretly activating a persons personal home web cam pretty intrusive.

Well, what I meant is what they were doing with the information. Like I said, it's quite the invasion of privacy, but not really harmful depending on what they were doing with it. If they did bad stuff with it, or turned it on at the way wrong time, then it's a problem.

i agree that it is an invasion of their privacy, UNLESS it was the schools computer issued tot he student, and if so the student was quite stupid, first of all why would you leave you laptop on facing you while you undress? anyways put a postat note over the cam, or unplug it, solves everything, and if it was a school isued comp. when you use it u lose all your rights of privacy, bec. i ISN'T yours. and as for hacking, haha, schools are to stupid to accomplish that.

School and government should not be allowed to view what goes on within someone's home. There are very few exceptions. What the school did was completely uncalled for. I hope the school is forced to recall all the computers and for such prude devices never to be used again by any school system.

If a lap top is lost, the school can charge that student before offering them a diploma.

Neither the family nor their lawyer, Mark Haltzman, returned calls from The Associated Press for comments this week.

Avoidance should be illegal. This is why I hate the American Justice System. Victims are put on hold because criminals refuse to talk. It's a game of who can hold out the longest before running out of money.

I don't think they knew it had a camera, much less that it was activated. And it isn't like they purposely turned it to face them when the undressed.

Woah. I saw the video and WOW that is unfair. It's like the boy in the video says. They might as well watch him in his room without him knowing.
