What sorts of reasons are the right ones for going to war?

None, I'm afraid. The reasons for going to war are simply redundant and static. They are all the same reasons. We have political conflicts with this nation, they have political conflicts with another nation, that nation hates this one, so on and so forth. The justification for these sorts of wars are all the same. We fought this nation because we wanted oil, under the pre-assumption that they were holding weapons that "threatened our well-being", we never went to war with this nation until they directly affected us in some way, we went to war with this nation to remove a "corrupted leader" but to really put in a leader under our watch because we obviously know better, we went to war with this nation because they went to war with another nation so we have this sort of obligation to help them. So obviously the justifications for going to war are not "good".

No.

All war in essence is saying that "You have my land! Give me it back!" Or "I want your land! Give it to me!"

Land is land and that will not change regardless of what empire stands upon it. Do not try to take other peoples land just because you can.

All war in essence is saying that

"Well we're gonna come over there and take your oil!"

"But this is our oil!"

"Oh ho ho! Well here's my missile!"

"Okay Okay! You can have it..."

War!

Not bad. It does not work for every war but it is still pretty good.

Anything, even war is capable of a justification. What matters is not whether it can or cannot be justified, but how it is justified. The aggressor in the war has a justification, whether we consider that justification viable is another matter all together.

WWII was justified because we were fighting a evil empire of death that wanted to take over the world. kinda sounds like a movie plot...

NO war can't be justified. People uasually don't have a problem with a country just the people running it so take out the leader and war would be averted

Let me state this again, obviously you didn't get the point. ANYTHING can be justified. However, whether you agree with the justification is another matter. The war in the Middle East is a good example of this.

As I said before, until we can get at least a working definition for what it means for war to be justified, we're going to get statements like this. From what you're saying, it sounds like you're equivocating on the word justification. Let me explain:

"ANYTHING can be justified"
Here, justification must just be giving reasons for something. This seems right.

"However, whether you agree with the justification is another matter"
Agree with what? If justification is just giving reasons and someone gives you reasons, then according to the earlier definition, it's justified. But here you clearly mean something along the lines of acceptable reasons.
The first definition of justification is descriptive - yes, people give reasons for doing things. The second is normative - only certain reasons can justify an action.

What we need to do is pin down what reasons are acceptable. Then we don't get silly things like "anything can be justified."

That`s the good side!?

To me obviously to you oviously not. I find that a just reason and you don't. Discussion closed.

I find it interesting you have no issue with taking away some peoples right to live but not others.

Many people find what I say interesting. You know your the same you wouldn't mind taking away the rights of a rapists, serial killing torturer would you?

But is anything worth the death of all those people

Yes.

But many people think war is all bad, and sure, in many cases it is, but war also has a 'good' to it. Not in the whole sense a 'good', but more so a natural good. Where as, a lot of everyday things we use were originally developed due to war efforts.

The sonar system, radars and all that - originally for war. And during World War 2, the sea floor was 'somewhat' mapped up while subs were away clearing mines.

So, in a sense, war has also helped develop our society as well as harm it. And in some cases, war was a necessity. Such as World War 2.

At Moe.

What I mean by agreeing with the justification is that whether you accept the reason give or not. To me a justification is a reason as to why something is being done. People may agree or disagree with that reason, really it isn't that unclear.
