Ummm.... AG, why are trying to sell "Healthy cigarettes" and "electronic cigarettes" to 11-15 year old boys? It sorta bugs me, and I think its showing the wrong message.
Anyways with the ad referring to browser history.. this isn't completely true.. yes if you have a crap load of history on your computer then yeah ad's will start appearing of what you usually look up and stuff.
But let's say you always delete your history when you exit your browser.. then there is not history to refer to.
wait, so seeing smoking ads, an act which you have no control over, makes you more likely to see more smoking ads because it comes up in your history as relating to smoking? That makes about ZERO sense
Unless the smoking ad has tags that have nothing to do with smoking.
But let's say you always delete your history when you exit your browser.. then there is not history to refer to.
Then they use Google Analytics (Which is on many, many websites, 60% of all popular sites) or make up the ads.
I think the advertisement ways are so huge in matter of rules, guidelines, selling and re-selling that we will never understand how they work! Unless you're someone working in that business... XD
So, the 'why' in the question of them showing on your computer is something not related to google (or any other sort of) cookies, since they are deleted by the users. Several people explained they did that and so do I from time to time... therefor I can only assume (since I don't work for an adfirm) that those particular ads are a result of an advertisement space being sold to a certain company, that at one point gets a request from a company to put those particular ads up for internet users to see...
And the only related information to 'why' you see them, could be a global region matter... I can't think of anything else... :S
My opinion on those ads being here is clear: not suited for a huge amount of users of this website!
Ulimited is correct. No matter how many times you delete your history most likely they will use Google Analytics.
I can tell you Google Analytics is integrated on AG as well...
And if you have a Gmail account, it gets even tougher to get rid of history, as while staying logged in, they remember all the searches you did on Google and store it with your Gmail on servers. Tough cookie...

You need a squad of lawyers for anything these days...

Or my theory that the smoking ad has tags on it that have nothing to do with smoking (Gaming, AG, Armorgames, flash, games, users, community etc...). Also plausible, yours is (Says Yoda).
It's a smoking ad, as far as I can tell I ignore all other ads, and probably you too, so why the bother? It may encourage children to smoke and lead them on to the 'full' and 'roper' ones, but maybe they were always going to and at least this keeps them healthy for a while? I don't know about this ad in particular, but I'd just say ignore them.
I agree that the best course of action is to ignore them, but I (for the love of god) can't understand why this kind of advertisement is thrown in the face of children that are in the stage of their lives that will most likely make them explore and try these things! o_0
I am a smoker (there I said it...) and I want to get rid of the darned stuff! It's ruining my life and I feel stupid for starting with it at the age of... you can guess... 14! That's almost 20 years ago now and it seriously harms your health!
I urge that Armor Games should act respnonsibly in this and remove the smoking ads COMPLETELY!
I know a lot of negative ads are thrown at teenagers and I applaud all who resist the temptation to experiment with any vice.
I, like MrDayCee, started before age 12 but didn't have "a habit" until I was a senior in HS, working, driving my own car, thought I was an adult, blah, blah. It's easier to abstain before you have a habit. Bottom line is I thought I could control my habit. Nicotine is, and this is a medically proven fact, the most habit forming drug.
Yes, I've seen the electronic cigarette ad on TV but not here on AG. Please, ignore these ads.
In addition to what Wajor says... I now know the only thing strong enough to effectively beat and overcome the dreadful habit of smoking, is just one little word that every person has inside him or her... the will do do things!
Only your own will can stop this unhealthy drug, and yes that does sound weird from a person that just admitted he still smokes, but it IS the truth in this matter!
I find myself having excuses to keep on smoking evry single time! Well, either that or I am simply making them up to keep getting that mistakenly good feeling of a sigarette...
That's one of the things Wajor pointed out in her post... nicotine is a drug that makes your own body (can you imagine that?!) fool you into thinking you need more of a certain substance... and at the same time that substance is breaking down your health when you use it!
I thought for a long time that I can control this dreaded habit, but have to admit that the bottom line for me is... when you have a tendency of forming habits, you will never have control over them when you think you do...
The drug will control you instead!
Therefor... again... I think that AG should remove any of these advertisements that can have children start smoking at the very age where their body is still forming itself and with that can easily form a habit that is a resilliant pest to them with only one awful goal... ruining your health and with that your life!
We know shayneii... but somehow it's not what we intended with our comments on the subject... it's simply wrong that kids aged 13 get to see these ads on a gaming website! That's all...
Hmmm... I have never seen these ads. But AG's ads go through an ad company. Although they limit which types of advertisements should not be used, to keep the ads appropriate and such, there are sometimes a few that get by. I am assuming this is what happened here. Because I don't think AG would knowingly try to advertise cigarettes to kids.

Ex's of getting through: False tags, words are text images etc...
If Carlie hasn't seem them, it must be a rare thing. Or perhaps it's designated on only one spot in the States (I haven't seen the ads). There are ads like that, you know.
HAY GUISE, THERE'S THIS THING CALLED ADBLOCK, AND...
Yes, we could use it, note though it does not find all the ads on AG, as I've found out. That's a good and a bad thing...
I think we should all know that AG doesn't have much control over what the advertisers put up there. At least it's not porn.
yes i agree that would be unpleasant...one time their was a game i was playing and it said click this link i clicked it and it came up with a porno site >_>
