Well, we all know that the Twilight saga has brought in massive rewards, and it's like Harry Potter all over again. A huge number love it and almost as many hate it (Research indicates the top reason is fans). And quite a few series have jumped out of nowhere based on the series.
But I find the books (And movies) have all changed our opinion of one thing: Vampires. Book lovers now see the 'Cold One' as appealing and sexy, while haters... Drop dead.
I'm just curious as to how people feel about this. Do you like the fact vampires have been changed so dramatically? If so, how?
In fact, 'real' vampires are thought to be based upon those who suffer from a group of disorders known as porphyria. Essentially, this involves a failure to produce haemoglobin, which results in anaemia. Certain subtypes of porphyria also cause photosensitivity. But it's hard to say whether the origins of vampiric folklore actually relate to porphyria itself, since the features of vampires have changed over the ages and medical documentation certainly doesn't follow the definitions we now use!

Oh I do so love your medical point of view Mr. Strop. And indeed, vampires do not sparkle. I haven't read any of the books or watched any of the movies. But a vampire is like the 70s and 80s Dracula, you know the one that kills everyone sucks their blood and is merciless. Vampires were originally killers, not a pretty boy that falls in love with a clumsy girl and has to fight a werewolf. There are in fact some accounts of real vampires. Or at least people drinking the blood of others, but then there are "modern" plays with blood that I won't even go into.
It made vampires puffy they are meant to be brutal monsters. But now they are just moody guys who have so many problems and fall i love with some girl who cant act (thats you Kisten Stewart, yeah we all know it).
Amazing. I just thought I might check what happened to this thread, and it was still on the front page. Amazing...
It made me appreciate Dracula a lot more,
You're right. Vampires used to be Dracula and buddies, now it's turned into full love series. WB even has a series.
Firstly its not the final chapter its the third Breaking Dawn is the last. And secondly have u seen the trailer it looks awful.
When I watched the two current movies (Under pressure from my surroundings) I was astounded how some scenes were so unrealistic. They should have tested it with audiences (Who are not Twilight fans) before releasing.
This saga made the Vampires look kinder to humans, well... at least a few are, but not all!
The goriest thing I think in the second one was: 'Ok people come along! This way to the dining hall!' *Hundreds of people shuffle past Bella, Edy and co. 'AAAAAAaaaaaarghhhhh'
You don't see anything. So we can only guess what really happened.
I feel Twilight has ruined the image of vampires. And as Stephen King put it:
"the real difference [between J. K. Rowling and Meyer] is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer, and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good."
My mom read the first book and told me it was true. Stephenie Meyer has no talent for writing. She rambles and repeats herself over pages.
Ok, stop refering to the people in Twilight as vampires. They aren't.
A mod post! Yes, the cast isn't made of vampires (At least I hope). It's made of teenagers who are trying out the movie business.
Twilight hasn't affected my view of vampires as a whole, but instead of the modernly liked vampire.
I still see vampires as savage, bloodthirsty animals. The book even held a (VERY LITTLE BIT) true to this. They still wanted to eat the living shit out of Bella. They were still hunters and killers. But their weaknesses were f*cked, therefore the movie and book sucked balls.
Point being: I still think that Vampires have the capibility to be bloodthirsty, poonthirsty, manipulative evil creatures. Though they should not have the ability to procreate, only to infect more individuals with vampiric blood.
