This is a discussion thread about Marijuana, Cannabis, Weed, Dank, 420, Pot. It is currently legal in a few states, though they are regulating the usage of it.
contrary to popular belief, weed doesnt cause cancer, it's like alcohol, impairs your motor skills. that's about it.
I figure you young kids will be eventually come into contact with it once you hit your college/high school years, and it would be good to dispel some wrong and wayward thinking brought on by the government.
so please have fun, ask questions, keep it lighthearted.
For others who partake in god's choice smokes please give me some of your favorite dank
Weed is legal in a couple of states, cali, colorado. up in Canada, Vancouver has legalized weed. Amsterdam too.
It's a great experience really, not advocating you should try it, since it is also quite the expensive plant (prices are artificially inflated in legalized areas also for government control purposes)
If marijuana became legal, you're gonna have everyone growing it in their backyard. Not many would pay the outrageous amount from Pfizer to have a little better high when I could just smoke MORE of the plant in my back yard.
Weed is a pretty casual drug. I doubt most legal users could be bothered to grow their own stuff, that said I'd be interested to see how weed in places like Holland is home grown or processed in massive warehouses as I believe to be the case.
The legalisation of it would prevent pharmaceutical companies charging outrageous amounts and would therefore be not much more expensive than home grown stuff.

We could just live in a dream world and hope that!
These companies may be greedy, but they certainly aren't stupid. If they can make money off weed by selling good stuff at a reasonable (ish) price, then I have no doubt they would do it.
And again, I would really like to see some stats from a legalised country on the proportion of weed which is homegrown. At the minute I simply can't be bothered. I would be much obliged to anyone who can be though.

As much as companies control vast power and influence within the government, they dont control it all. Its the only thing I can think of because I agree and cannot understand otherwise why this plant is not made legal. I also think its stigma of drugs. Perhaps ppl in the positions to change the laws are either scared or unwilling to go back on their "morals" etc.

There may be some homegrown, but for instance Amsterdam receives about 3+ million tourists a year who buy Marijuana there in the Coffee houses. So, just like the U.S gets tourism, we will get profits off of Marijuana from tourism, and hopefully help us out of this slight depression. If the government taxed Marijuana and only allowed permits and the such for "homegrowns" then the actual self growing of Marijuana can me limited. But then again there comes the worry of companies adding nicotine to Marijuana to make it more addictive, to keep buying their product.
I think it is this. Although big business concerns was one of the reasons it was made illegal (well paper manufacturers not pharmaceutical companies) the social stigma that has resulted over 80 years of anti weed propaganda has made any move for legalisation in most countries politically unpalpable. You also have to remember that it's only in the US with their barmy lobbying system that big business has the government by the meat and two veg. Not to say they don't have a sway here across the pond, but certainly not as much. It's just the conservative tendencies inherent within the parliamentary system combined with a mostly ignorant general population.
