Due to the volcano in Iceland spewing smoke nonstop, it has spread all across Europe. This caused many flights to be grounded and train stations packed. There will be more pollution and dirty air over there too.

How long will the volcano keep pouring in smoke and how long will the smoke over in Europe linger?

Anywhere from a week more to more than a month, hard to tell. It could be like one of those underwater smoke spewers that don't stop.

Thats a volcano, but I can't find a picture of those ones that just spew smoke like fumes.

Odds are that if continues for more than a week or two the European Union will start finding ways to keep flying. After all the only reason they can't fly is because the debris within the smoke clogs up the intakes and engine. A lot of the smoke is already dispersing because of the jet stream.

Yep, the jet stream. I am figuring this will be resolved within the coming week. If not then, the week after that.

"Scientists say the Icelandic volcano activity shows no sign of abating."

That's about the best scientists can predict volcanic activity. We'll have to wait and see.

That's all we can do, I'm hoping it abates soon. After all necessity is the mother of invention so if we need to we'll either come up with something that purifies that ash or flies through the ash.

It's actually a land volcano according to pictures that was taken a few minutes before the spewing phase.

I remember ash falling in Charlotte after Mt.St.Helens' eruption. It only lasted a few days but it did lower the temp a few degrees on the first day.
I know what you're referring to is a prolonged event but it's still strange, almost surreal to have ash falling a couple thousand miles away from the blast zone.

Last time that one erupted, it was active for 2 years. And since the wind is turning, Americans will get their share too.
I just say, think of this as positive. Now we don't have to worry about global warming.

I reckon the airways will start being used again very soon. That doesn't mean the smoke will clear. I doubt the smoke will clear for awhile.

There's like, 1 active volcano in Australia -.-'

I doubt it. Most civvie aircraft aren't able to safely take off or land if there's more than 2mm of ash on a runway.

I'm just finding it funny, because my facebook feed is filled with people detailing their epic routes of return to the UK, getting trains, ferries, massive road trips etc. It almost makes me wish I was on the continent just for the experience.

Prediction: How long will the smoke linger in Europe?

Answer: always too much.
It has already done several millions of Euro of damage.
And it will keep doing them.

The thing that I find most interesting about this is how the ash can actually be turned into diamond inside of plane engines due to the pressure and heat and stuff. And then the engine dies.

My Aunty came over to Australia from England two weeks ago and is now stuck in Sydney....

El Nino makes predictions impossible. I watch the weather everyday and I promise you they can't even predict the weather for tomorrow.
