This is a question I have to ask... why do people compete to get number 1 in the Current Leaders? Or even the lifetime leaders? What is the point, really? Do those numbers make you special? Is having Gold King the key to life?

It makes the low folks feel like they've accomplished something, when all it means is they've managed to have a good point streak with none of their posts and comments deleted.

Is having Gold King the key to life?

Err.....we aren't supposed to tell the lower users, but......yes, it is. Now you know.

No it does not count! Not unless you have at least 17500 points and a gold king badge next to your name.

The king made of gold in your room is actually me.

Pretty much what ernie said.

There's no point. You just get ranks...and points.
Is having Gold King the key to life?

No, same thing ,you just get gold king, nothing else.

You get a false sense of accomplishment, which is better than nothing, and people falsely recognize you as someone who is better than everyone else.

I'd say, the perks are pretty neat.

And speaking of points, this is my 36000th.

You know I will enjoy it. It's the closest I'll probably ever get to accomplishment. xD

Okay I know this is kind of confusing, but personally I couldn't care less about AP. I like getting to a high rank though

Caring about getting a high rank = caring about AP.
I guess AP gives you a sense of accomplishment.
You are known for something...even if it's not something great. Lol.

Caring about getting a high rank = caring about AP.

that's not true! The only thing i use AP for is a marker for how far away the next rank is :P

LOL what next rank, I'm pretty sure gold kings as high as you go unless there's some secret Lord of the universe rank that we lower users don't know about?

People love to compete with others, and outdo them. Well, not everyone. With many other things in life, it's the same with AP. A person wants to be the first among all the others. A person wants to be better than others. There is no magical gift you receive when you become #1.
