What is Evil? is there such thing? is there even a good or a bad, a light and a dark. Does evil describe, or does evil exist? What can be classified as evil? Is evil truly wrong other than the fact that it hurts others? is evil a mindset, or a noun? is it even there? describe evil, talk about it.
Throughout human history evil has been classified in a mass amount of ways. Basically all religions have there own types of evil. In the end though what people belive to be evil is an opinion to them selves.
Good and evil are illusions. Neither exist, only our opinions. Nothing is good, nothing is evil. The world isn't so black and white. It's all one big gray.
I would say the definition of evil is: directly harming for personal gain. And the definition of good would be detrimenting yourself for the gain of others.
However, what the other two have posted about...that's not evil; those are ethics and morals that describe certain actions as being evil.
Like EnterOrion and Graham said, evil is whatever you classify it to be and there is no real universal definition of evil because the morality of something lies in ones opinion.

OK but on a more serious note, evil is someone who is tyrannical and oppresses, as well as selfish and is willing to hurt others, even some of his or her own for personal gain.
There is no pure evil or pure good, good guys or bad guys, a people has evil side and a good side, even you has one evil side. Even a criminal has a good side, (in someones it is very deep).
I think there is no such thing as evil, only ignorance and misjudgement. If someone was to steal then they over value their gain over others, if someone kills they under value other peoples lives. If some one was to commit assault then they under value other peoples feelings. Misjudgement could be caused by bad upbringing or bad influence, I suppose you could say that people can be brought up to be evil but I don't think anyone is truly evil.

You sir, are someone special. NO-one else has that point-of-view.
