I said it. Not out of spite or anything, beleive me, I think viruses tend to be totally awesome. But think HARD for a second. Viruses absolutely HAVE to be the most stupid thing on the planet. Here are my reasons: 1. Viruses can't even reproduce by themselves. They need a host cell in order to reproduce for them.
2. Viruses cannot be a decent parasite. Either they're fatal or they get killed by an immune system.
3. (Most) Viruses die in straight air. They need a host cell in order to survive. If they don't have the host, they are dead.
4. At this rate, with all the precautionary measures that the world has with viruses, the Virus will eventually become obsolete and die out. Unless the roll of the "LET'S CREATE SOME SH*T" die of the universe/god/evolution says that a new virus comes to be.
5. Viruses can't moderate themselves. Like I said, either they kill or they get killed. Even after they kill their host they can't survive in the straight weather. So again, Viruses are incredibly stupid.

How does this have anything to do with intelligence again? Lol

Actually they crystallize and wait until a host comes. Some viruses stay crystallized for over a million years.

Well, since viruses are only an RNA substance with a protein coat surrounding it, the idea that new viruses come into existence isn't a far stretch.

I hadn't known that. Due-ly noted.
Viruses are the top of the food chain; the pwn everything.
Themselves included, apparently.
As for viruses being stupid, I meant their concept as a whole. It has no sensory systems (as far as I can tell) and it doesn't appear to be sentient. Therefore I can't actually compare it's intelligence.

They just jack a cell, insert, their DNA, and wait for the cell to explode. Cheeky little devils.
You give the virus far too little credit. After all, we still have not beat out the common cold. You make the mistake that simplicity is such a flawed way of working when the virus itself has been on this earth as long as life itself. Most importantly, you forget that viruses evolve.
When it comes to existence, the virus is much more complex than a rock. I'll be waiting for you to make a thread talking about how stupid and boring rocks are.
