I just wanted to bring up recognition to games that were ahead of their time at the time and were thought to be revolutionary. It seems most of the threads are about current or the hottest games.
Anyone want to give some praise to "forgotten", "unheard of", or "unforgettable" games?
Tales of destiny 2 and legend of dragoon are two fabulous and incredibly innovative games that were ignored even as I was a kid. However, even today in 2010, they remain my favorite games on th Ps. Today, all games are juste copies of old concepts with fresh paint coats so I often find myself (most of the time in fact) turning back at my old Ps1/Ps2 games.
I defiantly see what you mean, many games are in fact are just renditions of old games. They take known concept and take a small twist and make it a franchise.
I loved the old mario games,i played them everyday on my super Nintendo
Tomba was quite a good game but I remember it as a pretty hardcore game...It may be due to the fact that I didn't speak english as well as I do today but still, weren't the puzzles quite tough? Just today, I played megaman X6, Rayman 1!!!, Xenosaga and donkey kong country 2 even though I got a Ps3 with some amazing games ^^...
Chrono Trigger is statistically the best RPG ever in existence, but not too many people have heard of it, let alone played it
Well not on gamer planet! God, that game is very good. I admit that for it's time, it was amazingly innovative. As for Xenosaga. It's a threefolded Ps2 game, meaning that there're three games of which two have two Ps2 Cds...you can imagine the lenght... It's basically a game for genius, it can be played by anyone, but as all xeno games, it boasts so many philosophical/ religious/ musical/ science references that someone with more developped culture can easily enjoy the story way more than the actual gameplay. The games all bear german names which are all titles of Nietszche books. Nietszche philosophy is often implicitly evoked in all three games...
Stronghold and expansion Stronghold Crusader. I don't think that any game before had such combination of war strategy and economy simulation. I also thing that Gobliiins was innovating game, very old and yet has more interesting puzzles than some of new graphic adventure games.
...3 discs long...
Somehow all games that come on 3 discs are awesome: Gothic 2, Rome Total War, WarHammer40K, DOOM3... That's how you recognize an old classic, it's on 3 discs.
If they made a modern megaman i think it would be sweet.
Well they actually have some version on the Ps2, which are not THAT old but man, megaman has become so bad the last few years. All the ''X'' games after the 6 are complete failures due to the fact that it's not done in 2d artwork and sprites anymore; they completely lost the spirit of the game. I remember that the sprites and the art are what hitted me first as a child and encouraged me to play...
Well anyhow, they still have some pretty entertaining games on the Megamanzero side but it's a matter of time before it becomes completely unoriginal and dull...
And yeah, FF7 is a cult game, though the gameplay is not that amazing...What saves the game is its superb story.
